Radiation and Dual Checkpoint Blockade Activates Non-Redundant Immune Mechanisms in Cancer

open access: yesNature, 2015
Immune checkpoint inhibitors result in impressive clinical responses, but optimal results will require combination with each other and other therapies. This raises fundamental questions about mechanisms of non-redundancy and resistance.

Image quality comparisons of coil setups in 3T MRI for brain and head and neck radiotherapy simulations

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 23, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Purpose MRI is increasingly used for brain and head and neck radiotherapy treatment planning due to its superior soft tissue contrast. Flexible array coils can be arranged to encompass treatment immobilization devices, which do not fit in diagnostic head/neck coils. Selecting a flexible coil arrangement to replace a diagnostic coil should rely

Comparison of three methods of EPR retrospective dosimetry in watch glass

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2022
In this article we present results of our follow-up studies of samples of watch glass obtained and examined within a framework of international intercomparison dosimetry project RENEB ILC 2021. We present three methods of dose reconstruction based on EPR

Acceleration and trapping of particles by radiation pressure

open access: yes, 1970
Micron-sized particles have been accelerated and trapped in stable optical potential wells using only the force of radiation pressure from a continuous laser.

Evaluation of intrafraction couch shifts for proton treatment delivery in head‐and‐neck cancer patients: Toward optimal imaging frequency

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 23, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Purpose Treatment planning for head‐and‐neck (H&N) cancer, in particular oropharynx, nasopharynx, and paranasal sinus cases, at our center requires noncoplanar proton beams due to the complexity of the anatomy and target location. Targeting accuracy for all beams is carefully evaluated by using image guidance before delivering proton beam ...

Hawking radiation in Non local field theories [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Locality plays a key role in the derivation of Hawking radiation. Could relaxing the locality criterion modify Hawking radiation? We consider Hawking radiation in a general class of non local quantum field theories. We prove that Hawking radiation is unmodified for these theories. Our result establishes the universality of Hawking radiation in a larger

A direct measurement of the radiation sensitivity of normal mouse bone marrow cells.

open access: yesRadiation Research, 1961
Counts of macroscopic splenic colonies were used to obtain an estimate of the radiation sensitivity of normal mouse bone marrow progenitor cells. Reproduced from Radiation Research 1961(Feb); 14(2): 213-222 by copyright permission of the Radiation ...

Image quality improvement in low‐dose chest CT with deep learning image reconstruction

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 23, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Objectives To investigate the clinical utility of deep learning image reconstruction (DLIR) for improving image quality in low‐dose chest CT in comparison with 40% adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction‐Veo (ASiR‐V40%) algorithm. Methods This retrospective study included 86 patients who underwent low‐dose CT for lung cancer screening ...

Blackbody Radiation in Classical Physics: A Historical Perspective [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physics 86, 495-509 (2018), 2017
We point out that current textbooks of modern physics are a century out-of-date in their treatment of blackbody radiation within classical physics. Relativistic classical electrodynamics including classical electromagnetic zero-point radiation gives the Planck spectrum with zero-point radiation as the blackbody radiation spectrum.
