Dynamic evolution of relativistic electrons in the radiation belts

Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2001
Geomagnetic storms are responsible for the large increase of trapped electron fluxes in the magnetosphere resulting in the formation of radiation belts. Such belts can also be artificially produced by injection of electron beams. The dynamic evolution of the electron fluxes is very important for satellite protection purpose.

Radiation belt electrons: Structure of the loss cone

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1977
A critical analysis of existing theories for the structure of the atmospheric loss cone of energetic radiation belt electrons is presented. Emphasis is put on inadequacies and limitations of these theories. Some of the important error sources characteristic of experimental studies of the electron loss cone are also discussed and their effects assessed.

Modeling of Electron Time Variations in the Radiation Belts

2013
A review of the temporal variation in the trapped electron population of the inner and outer radiation zones is presented. Techniques presently used for modeling these zones are discussed and their deficiencies identified. An intermediate region is indicated between the zones in which the present modeling techniques are inadequate due to the magnitude ...

A review of ULF interactions with radiation belt electrons

2006
Energetic particle fluxes in the outer zone radiation belts can vary over orders of magnitude on a variety of timescales. Power at ULF frequencies, on the order of a few millihertz, have been associated with changes in flux levels among relativistic electrons comprising the outer zone of the radiation belts. Power in this part of the spectrum may occur
