Foreign Direct Investment and Maritime Transportation Infrastructure: Competition Effects Under the Belt and Road Initiative

open access: yesThe World Economy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this paper, we analyse the determinants of maritime connections, with a special focus on the importance of foreign direct investments (FDI) in improving maritime transportation networks and in restructuring them. We are also interested in how China, in particular, impacts countries' integration to global supply chains through maritime ...

The Earth's Greatest Porous Media

open access: yesPerspectives of Earth and Space Scientists, Volume 7, Issue 1, December 2026.
Abstract How deeply does modern meteoric water circulate into the continental crust? How deep is the Earth's Critical Zone (CZ), the top layer of the continental lithosphere that co‐evolves with the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere, extending from vegetation canopy down to fresh bedrock and the base of active groundwater circulation?

Climate change‐driven expansion of goosegrass highlights risks to global food production

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 7, Page 6494-6508, July 2026.
Climate change is expanding the climatic suitability of Eleusine indica into temperate agricultural regions, increasing its overlap with major soybean and maize production areas. These findings highlight a growing global threat to food security and the need for proactive weed management strategies.

Dry Cleaning and Post‐Cleaning Strategies in Food Processing Facilities: A Scoping Review

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 4, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Effective dry cleaning and post‐cleaning treatments are essential for maintaining food safety in dry‐food processing environments where water use must be minimized. This scoping review mapped and synthesized empirical research on minimal‐water cleaning methods applied to industrial surfaces, focusing on their efficacy against microbial and ...

Technologies for equine welfare and performance monitoring under field conditions – Where do we stand?

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, Volume 58, Issue 4, Page 872-888, July 2026.
Abstract The need for comprehensive equine welfare assessments has become particularly evident amid ongoing debates about the social licence to operate in equestrian sports. During exercise, multiple physiological systems, principally the cardiovascular, respiratory, muscular, thermoregulatory, endocrine, and locomotory systems, undergo complex ...

Atmosphere‐Ocean Tendency Corrections Improve Seasonal Prediction Skill of CanESM5

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 12, 28 June 2026.
Abstract This study examines impacts on prediction skill of empirically‐derived tendency corrections (TC) to climatological seasonal cycle biases in retrospective seasonal forecasts from the Canadian Earth System Model version 5 (CanESM5). A novel aspect is that TC are applied simultaneously in the modeled atmosphere and ocean, rather than to either ...

Electron Scattering by Highly Oblique Quasi‐Electrostatic Chorus Waves Under Realistic Magnetospheric Conditions

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 12, 28 June 2026.
Abstract Using Van Allen Probes data (2013–2015), we report that highly oblique chorus waves frequently occur in low‐density regions where fpe/fce≈3 ${f}_{\text{pe}}/{f}_{\text{ce}}\approx 3$. These waves exhibit an electric‐to‐magnetic energy ratio PE/c2PB>0.5 $\sqrt{{P}_{\mathrm{E}}/{c}^{2}{P}_{\mathrm{B}}} > 0.5$, much higher than the typical <0.1 ${
