A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Ultralow radiative heat flux by Anderson localization in quasiperiodic plasmonic chains

open access: yesCommunications Physics
Anderson localization, arising from wave interference in disordered systems, profoundly hinders energy transport, yet its impact on radiative heat flux in many-body thermophotonic systems remains unclear.

Numerical Study of Non-Gray Radiative Heat Transfer in a T-shaped Furnace [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Design and Manufacturing Technology, 2020
Radiative heat transfer has an important role in many industrial equipment; i.e. furnaces, boilers and high temperature heat exchangers. In this paper, combination of Weighted Sum of Gray Gas Method (WSSGM) and Discrete Ordinate Method (DOM) are used ...

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

Simulation study on the oxidation performance of low-concentration methane preheating direct current catalytic oxidation plant considering thermal radiation

open access: yesHeliyon
In this study, the process of catalytic oxidation of methane considering radiative heat transfer was simulated using FLUENT computational software to study the effect of thermal radiation on the oxidation performance of the simulated device, and to ...

Determination of physical properties of fibrous thermal insulation

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2012
The objective of this study is to characterize both experimentally and theoretically, conductive and radiative heat transfer within polyester batting. This material is derived from recycled bottles (PET) with fibres of constant diameters.

Experimental assessment of thermal radiation effects on containment atmospheres with varying steam content

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2022
The thermal-hydraulics phenomena in a containment during an accident will necessarily include radiative heat transfer (i) within the gas mixture due to the high radiative absorption and emission of steam and (ii) between the gas mixture and the ...

Shape-dependence of near-field heat transfer between a spheroidal nanoparticle and a flat surface

open access: yes, 2010
We study the radiative heat transfer between a spheroidal metallic nanoparticle and a planar metallic sample for near- and far-field distances. In particular, we investigate the shape dependence of the heat transfer in the near-field regime.

Low‐Cost, Large‐Scale Nanoporous Metals by Mechanical Alloying, Oxide Reduction, and Dealloying of Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...
