Role of CISS in the Radical Pair Model of Avian Magnetoreception
In this paper, we investigate the effect of chiral-induced spin selectivity (CISS) on the radical pair model of avian magnetoreception. We examine the impact of spin selectivity on the avian compass sensitivity. In this analysis, we also consider the dipolar and exchange interactions and observe their interplay with CISS.

Genetic analysis of cryptochrome in insect magnetosensitivity
The earth’s magnetic field plays an important role in the spectacular migrations and navigational abilities of many higher animals, particularly birds. However, these organisms are not amenable to genetic analysis, unlike the model fruitfly, Drosophila ...

In radical (co)polymerization and polymer recycling processes with branch and crosslinking formation easily more than two macroradical types exist, defining a variety of termination reaction possibilities. However, in many kinetic modeling studies the termination of each distinct radical pair is described by the same average (apparent) rate coefficient

Calculating Hyperfine Couplings in Large Ionic Crystals Containing Hundreds of QM Atoms: Subsystem DFT is the Key [PDF]
We present an application of the linear scaling Frozen Density Embedding (FDE) formulation of subsystem DFT to the calculation of isotropic hyperfine coupling constants (hfccs) of atoms belonging to a guanine radical cation embedded in a guanine ...

Weak magnetic fields modulate superoxide to control planarian regeneration
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) signaling regulates cell behaviors and tissue growth in development, regeneration, and cancer. Commonly, ROS are modulated pharmacologically, which while effective comes with potential complications such as off-target ...

Magnetic properties of a helical spin chain with alternating isotropic and anisotropic spins: magnetization plateaus and finite entropy [PDF]
We study a model which could explain some of the unusual magnetic properties observed for the one-dimensional helical spin system Co(hfac)_2 NITPhOMe. One of the properties observed is that the magnetization shows plateaus near zero and near one-third of

Electron spin relaxation can enhance the performance of a cryptochrome-based magnetic compass sensor
The radical pair model of the avian magnetoreceptor relies on long-lived electron spin coherence. Dephasing, resulting from interactions of the spins with their fluctuating environment, is generally assumed to degrade the sensitivity of this compass to ...
