Radical prostatectomy and complications

International Urology and Nephrology, 1990
Radical prostatectomy has been successfully applied in the treatment of intracapsular prostatic tumour. A few modifications of the surgical technique are suggested to prevent complications. Initial results confirm that the method works, as all patients have remained continent. One of them died of pulmonary embolism right in the postoperative phase.

Radical Transpubic Prostatectomy

Removal of an adequate wedge of symphysis pubis provides considerably improved exposure for radical prostatectomy. It is safer to remove the symphysis subperiosteally and to transect the bone with an oscillating bone saw or osteotome. The transpubic approach to radical prostatectomy affords the urologist the advantages of 1) early direct ligation of ...

SALVAGE RADICAL PROSTATECTOMY

Urologic Clinics of North America, 2001
Although technically challenging, salvage prostatectomy for radiorecurrent prostate cancer is an effective option in carefully selected patients and offers the best chance for cure and long-term survival. Alternatively, cystoprostatectomy may be indicated in some patients who have a small capacity fibrotic bladder or intractable voiding symptoms ...
