Radicinin is a phytotoxic and antibiotic metabolite produced by some phytopathogenic fungi. Precursor administration and cell-free experiments with deoxyradicinin and radicinin were carried out in Bipolaris coicis H13-3. When deoxyradicinin was administered to the fungus, radicinin and 3-epi-radicinin formed.

Abstract The conditions for the growth of Sterad and isolation of radicinin are described. The formula C12H12O5 was established for this compound by preparation and analyses of several derivatives. Degradation and spectrophotometric studies were employed to establish the molecular formula.

Abstract We describe herein an enantio- and diastereoselective total synthesis of two radicinin analogues 13 and 14. 13 has been subjected to biological tests, exhibiting the lowest toxicity of all radicinin analogues that have been investigated to date and it depresses the heart ventricular strip and histamine contraction.
