Radio Variability of Radio Quiet and Radio Loud Quasars [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2004
The majority of quasars are weak in their radio emission, with flux densities comparable to those in the optical, and energies far lower. A small fraction, about 10%, are hundreds to thousands of times stronger in the radio.

Quasar Radio-Loudness and the Elliptical Core Problem [PDF]

open access: yes(2010) MNRAS, 407, 2393, 2010
The dichotomy between radio-loud and radio-quiet QSOs is not simply one of host morphology. While spiral galaxies almost exclusively host radio-quiet QSOs, ellipticals can host either radio-louds or radio-quiets. We find that a combination of accretion rate and host scale determines which type of QSO a given elliptical galaxy will host.

Radio and spectroscopic properties of miniature radio galaxies: revealing the bulk of the radio-loud AGN population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We explore radio and spectroscopic properties of a sample of 14 miniature radio galaxies, i.e. early-type core galaxies hosting radio-loud AGN of extremely low radio power, 10^(27-29) erg s^(-1) Hz^(-1) at 1.4 GHz. Miniature radio galaxies smoothly extend the relationships found for the more powerful FRI radio galaxies between emission line, optical ...

The radio structure of radio-quiet quasars [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2006
We investigate the radio emitting structures of radio-quiet active galactic nuclei with an emphasis on radio-quiet quasars to study their connection to Seyfert galaxies. We present and analyse high-sensitivity VLA radio continuum images of 14 radio-quiet quasars and six Seyfert galaxies.

Optical and radio properties of giant radio quasars: Central black hole characteristics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We analysed the optical and radio properties of lobe-dominated giant-sized (> 0.72 Mpc) radio quasars and compared the results with those derived for a sample of smaller radio sources to determine whether the large size of some extragalactic radio sources is related to the properties of their nuclei.
