Morphology of bottom surfaces of glacier ice tongues in the East Antarctic region
During three Antarctic summer campaigns (1995/97/99) Radio Echo Sounding (RES) system data from some glacier ice tongues in the East Antarctic regions between Victoria Land and George V Land were collected.

Helicopter-borne radio-echo sounding of Svartisen, Norway [PDF]
A helicopter-mounted low frequency ice-radar has been developed for the depth sounding of temperate glaciers. The radar consists of standard transmitter and digital receiver equipment. The long antennae are supported on a special aluminium and fibreglass construction which hangs 20 m below the helicopter. The radar has been used on Engabreen, an outlet

Fast ice flow on the Antarctic continent constitutes much of the mass loss from the ice sheet. However, geophysical methods struggle to constrain ice flow history at depth, or separate the signatures of topography, ice dynamics and basal conditions on ...

Englacial architecture of Lambert Glacier, East Antarctica [PDF]
The analysis of englacial layers using radio-echo sounding data enables the characterisation and reconstruction of current and past ice-sheet flow. Despite the Lambert Glacier catchment being one of the largest in Antarctica, discharging ∼16 % of East ...

Radio-echo sounding of the lambert glacier basin [PDF]
AbstractSeveral seasons of aerial ice-thickness soundings over the region of the Prince Charles Mountains, the Lambert Glacier system, the Amery Ice Shelf, and their drainage basin in east Antarctica have now been completed. The measurements provide detailed maps of surface topography and ice thickness over an area of about 2 X 105 km2.

Ice stream or not? Radio-echo sounding of Carlson Inlet, West Antarctica [PDF]
The Antarctic Ice Sheet loses mass to the surrounding ocean mainly by drainage through a network of ice streams: fast-flowing glaciers bounded on either side by ice flowing one or two orders of magnitude more slowly.

New modeling of the Vostok ice flow line and implication for the glaciological chronology of the Vostok ice core [PDF]
International audienceWe have used new spaceborne (elevation) and airborne (ice thickness) data to constrain a 2D1/2 model of snow accumulation and ice flow along the Ridge B‐Vostok station ice flow line (East Antarctica). We show that new evaluations of

Layer optimized SAR processing and slope estimation in radar sounder data
Englacial layers in Antarctica and Greenland are indicators of the dynamic, rheological and subglacial configuration of the ice sheets. Airborne radar sounder data is the primary remote sensing solution for directly observing englacial layers and ...

Radar surveys across ice sheets typically measure numerous englacial layers that can often be regarded as isochrones. Such layers are valuable for extrapolating age–depth relationships away from ice-core locations, reconstructing palaeoaccumulation ...
