Radio frequency identification (RFID) applied to surgical sponges

Surgical Endoscopy, 2007
Use of gauze sponges that have been embedded with passive radio frequency identification (RFID) tags presents a high probability of reducing or eliminating instances of gossypiboma, or retained surgical sponge. The use of human counts during surgical operations, especially during instances where unexpected or emergency events occur, can result in ...

Chipless Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Device

2007 1st Annual RFID Eurasia, 2007
A novel technique for radio frequency identification devices (RFID) based on remote measurement of complex impedance at microwave frequencies is presented. The low cost read-only tags do not need semiconductor elements and can be implemented by printing a conducting pattern on a low cost dielectric substrate.

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Technology

2008
We are in the midst of what may become one of the true technological transformations of our time. RFID (radio frequency identification) is by no means a new technology. RFID is fundamentally based on the study of electromagnetic waves and radio, pioneered in the 19th century work of Faraday, Maxwell, and Marconi.

Understanding RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)

2009
RFID, also known as radio frequency identification, is a form of Auto ID (automatic identification). Auto ID is defined as “the identification of an object with minimal human interaction” (Puckett, 1998). Auto ID has been in existence for some time; in fact, the bar code, the most ubiquitous form of Auto ID, celebrated its 30th year in commercial use ...

Basics of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Systems

2011
With the recent advances in wireless communications, Radio frequency Identification (RFID) technology is becoming more of a reality in terms of their widespread use in various applications. Although RFID provides a general capability for tagging and tracking of objects, and has been in use for decades, no RFID system fits all applications.

Enterprise Investing in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)

2011
This is a case of enterprise investing in a specific technology—Radio frequency identification (RFID)—in an effort to add another technology-based service to, in this case, Oracle Corporation’s, repertoire of products and services. Oracle USA is one of the top software companies in the world today, with over 50,000 employees, $14 billion in revenues ...
