INVERSE DEPOLARIZATION: A POTENTIAL PROBE OF INTERNAL FARADAY ROTATION AND HELICAL MAGNETIC FIELDS IN EXTRAGALACTIC RADIO JETS [PDF]
Motivated by recent observations that show increasing fractional linear polarization with increasing wavelength in a small number of optically thin jet features, i.e., “inverse depolarization,” we present a physical model that can explain this effect and

Relativistic jets in narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies. New discoveries and open questions
Before the launch of the Fermi satellite only two classes of AGNs were known to produce relativistic jets and thus emit up to the γ-ray energy range: blazars and radio galaxies, both hosted in giant elliptical galaxies.

Hunting Gamma-Ray-emitting FR0 Radio Galaxies in Wide-field Sky Surveys
The latest entry in the jetted active galactic nuclei (AGN) family is the Fanaroff–Riley type 0 (FR0) radio galaxies. They share several observational characteristics, e.g., nuclear emission and host galaxy morphology, with FR I sources; however, they ...

Radio Jet and Lobe of 3C273 [PDF]
The ‘superluminal’ motion observed in the cores of radio sources such as 3C273 is now accepted as evidence of relativistic motion within a few parsecs of the centre, but it is less clear whether such speeds persist out to kiloparsec scales. The one-sidedness of such sources is often cited as evidence of relativistic Doppler beaming, but could equally ...

Radio Loud AGN Unification: Connecting Jets and Accretion
While only a fraction of Active Galactic Nuclei are observed to host a powerful relativistic jet, a cohesive picture is emerging that radio-loud AGN may represent an important phase in the evolution of galaxies and the growth of the central super-massive

Black Hole, Jet, and Disk: The Universal Engine [PDF]
In this paper I review the results of our ongoing project to investigate the coupling between accretion disk and radio jet in galactic nuclei and stellar mass black holes. We find a good correlation between the UV bump luminosity and the radio luminosities of AGN, which improves upon the usual [OIII]/radio correlations.

Dual and off-nucleus active supermassive black holes are expected to be common in the hierarchical structure formation paradigm, but their identification at parsec scales remains a challenge due to strict angular resolution requirements.

Influence of the jet opening angle on the derived kinematical parameters of blazar jets having uniform and stratified bulk motion [PDF]
We present analytical modelling of conical relativistic jets, in order to evaluate the role of the jet opening angle on certain key parameters that are inferred from VLBI radio observations of blazar nuclear jets. The key parameters evaluated are the orientation angle (i.e., the viewing angle) of the jet and the apparent speed and Doppler factor of the

Radio jets from stellar tidal disruptions [PDF]
A star that passes too close to a massive black hole will be torn apart by tidal forces. The flare of photons emitted during the accretion of the stellar debris is predicted to be observable, and candidates of such events have been observed at optical to
