Photonics for radio access networks

2017 19th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2017
In this work we analyse radio access networks (RAN) deployments from the capacity and cost points of view. We find that in order to support the new radio (NR) with system bandwidth of 800MHz and reduce the number of fibre connections between NR and baseband units (BBU) one can use dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM), pulse amplitude ...

Coding and Networking Techniques for Radio Networks

2005
We study the interaction of source and channel coding, and of coding and multiplexing techniques, given a multi-mode, Variable Bit Rate (VBR), and embedded source coding scheme. We estimate the coded bit-stream resistance to channel impairments and frame losses.

Convergence of cognitive radio networks

2004 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (IEEE Cat. No.04TH8733), 2004
In this paper, we examine the conditions and behavior of several common convergence dynamics from game theory and show how they influence the structure of networks of cognitive radios. We then apply these to previously proposed distributed power control algorithms and describe how they impact network complexity.

Radio in the network

IEE Colloquium on Shaping Tomorrow's Networks: Trends in Network Architectures for Delivering Present and Future Services, 1998
Almost since its inception, radio technology has played a key role in telecommunications networks. Nowadays radio is used extensively in both core and access networks, particularly where mobility or rapid roll out is required. This paper presents an overview of the three principal applications of radio in telecommunications, namely core, distribution ...

Cognitive Radio Network Tomography

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2010
The cognitive radio network (CRN), as a promising technique in future wireless communication networks, shall execute some critical functionalities to enhance existing wireless networks, such as network reconfigurability to adaptively select networks (e.g., in IEEE P1900.4 and ETSI-RSS), spectrum opportunity utilization for transmissions over ...

Multiaccess Radio Network Enviroments

IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine, 2010
Nowadays there is a plethora of independent radio access technologies (RATs), each supporting distinct coverage, mobility, data rates, and quality of service (QoS). The cornerstone of all visions on future wireless networks is that there will be a multiaccess network environment, where users will be able to select from various available multiple ...

Communication in dynamic radio networks

Proceedings of the twenty-sixth annual ACM symposium on Principles of distributed computing, 2007
We study the completion time of distributed broadcast protocols in dynamic radio networks. The dynamic network is modelled by means of adversaries: we consider two of them that somewhat are the extremal cases. We first analyze the weakest one, i.e., an oblivious, memoryless random adversary.

Networks and Radios

2018
Networking micro:bits together allows you to exchange data and broadcast to many micro:bit boards. In this chapter, you learn how to build wired and wireless networks with micro:bit boards. You’ll be able to build a wide range of applications based on the networking features of the micro:bit, such as data loggers, remote control vehicles, advertising ...

Radio over fibre networks

2007 Second International Conference on Access Networks & Workshops, 2007
In this paper we will present concepts that are vital for the demonstration of vertically integrated Radio over fibre networks. We look at some of the technologies that are required to introduce complex network functions in the optical layer and discuss some of the issues that arise in the deployment of radio over-fibre networks.
