On pulsar radio emission

This work intends to contribute to the understanding of the radio emission of pulsars. Pulsars are neutron stars with a radius of about 10^6 cm and a mass of about one to three solar masses, that rotate with a period between seconds and milliseconds. They exhibit tremendous magnetic fields of 10^8 to 10^13 Gauss.

High-precision timing of radio pulsars in binary systems provides details of the current orbital parameters and usually suggests likely evolutionary histories. In the cases where general-relativistic corrections to the basic Keplerian orbit can be measured, the pulsar and companion masses can be inferred.

Radio Pulsar Statistics

Radio pulsars are a major probe of the Galactic neutron star population and its evolution. Our attempts to derive the properties of the underlying, as opposed to the observed, population of radio pulsars in our Galaxy have gradually improved over the years thanks to large-scale surveys and more detailed simulations of the population.
