Tumor eradication by radiofrequency therapy.

JAMA, 1976
Tumor blood flow, measured by an isotope dilution technique, is only 2% to 15% of that of the surrounding tissue. This sluggish circulation differentiates cancer from normal tissue and forms the basis for a new therapy that entails the transfer of radiofrequency (RF) energy for heating tissues locally.

External radiofrequency as a novel extracorporeal therapy for emphysema

European Respiratory Journal, 2020
COPD is characterised by the destruction of lung tissue resulting in alveolar tissue destruction, enlargement of alveolar spaces, poor gas exchange and airway collapse due to the loss of elastic recoil [1]. Lung volume reduction surgery (LVRS) is effective in reducing long term morbidity and mortality of patients with severe emphysema who have a ...

Interstitial Radiofrequency Therapy of the Prostate

The Journal of Urology, 1996
We assessed the feasibility of using interstitial radiofrequency therapy for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in 50 patients.Therapy was given using a standard diathermy unit as the radiofrequency generator and a disposable needle electrode. The main outcome measure was improvement in symptoms assessed by symptom scores.Patients with bothersome ...

Renal ablative therapy: Radiofrequency ablation and cryoablation

Journal of Surgical Oncology, 2009
AbstractWidespread use of cross‐sectional imaging has contributed to an increase in diagnosis of small renal masses. While extirpation has historically been the “gold standard” for managing such tumors, thermal ablation is increasingly utilized as primary surgical therapy. Contemporary series suggest that ablative procedures maintain oncologic outcomes
