Abdominal radiography in small animals
In Practice, 2012Increasingly widespread use of ultrasonography has led to a decline in the use of abdominal radiography in small animal practice; however, radiography remains an efficient and useful technique for examining a patient's abdomen. Presumptive diagnosis of diseases of the liver, gallbladder, biliary tract, and pancreas can often be made from plain abdominal radiograms alone. The outline of the liver can be estimated even in normal cases from the surrounding fat pad which forms its contour, the gas in the intestine, and the relationship with the diaphragm.

Focusing on uncommon normal variants, or giving too much importance to insignificant abnormalities, can hinder one's perception.

Abdominal Computed Radiography: Evaluation of Low-contrast Lesions
Investigative Radiology, 1980Computed radiography has proved useful as a localization device for computed tomography. In an attempt to evaluate computed radiography as a primary diagnostic device, 16 patients were evaluated with various degrees of gallbladder opacification following standard oral cholecystograms, and 15 patients were evaluated with renal masses, identified on ...

Clinical Radiology, 1992Drug smuggling by intra-abdominal concealment is now a world-wide problem. This paper describes the establishment of a plain radiography service to assist customs officers of Manchester International Airport (MIA) in their work. Over a 2 1/2 year period, 158 suspected 'body packers' were radiographed, resulting in nine positive detections.
