The development of new imaging techniques over recent years has improved the accuracy with which the extent of the disease can be demonstrated in patients with lymphoma. These methods either complement or replace existing conventional radiological methods such as plain films, bariums, intravenous urograms or lymphography.

Abstract 1. The argument in favour of the routine double-contrast examination of the colon is illustrated. 2. A simple method of cleansing the bowel prior to the X-ray examination is described, using a colon actuator introduced in a special way with the patient rocking himself from side to side in the supine position.

The role of imaging in assessment of neurolaryngology will predominantly involve the assessment of pathology along that of laryngeal nerve pathways. The anatomical pathways of the vagus and laryngeal nerves are well described in standard anatomical textbooks and will not be detailed here.

Several different computer methods have been developed to assist in the production of radiology reports. Some systems require the radiologist to interact directly with the computer; in other departments, it is the transcriptionist who types the report into a computer terminal.

The role of barium radiology in the diagnosis and assessment of inflammatory bowel disease is discussed. A primary diagnostic role is maintained in the small bowel, though in the colon endoscopy with biopsy is being used more frequently. The instant enema is safer in acute colitis.
