Radon exhalation from temperature treated loess

Science of the Total Environment, 2022
Radon gas is a cancer risk and exists naturally in certain soils, such as loess, which is an important raw earth construction material in arid regions such as northwestern China and southern USA. Accordingly, the radon exhalationed from building materials is of increasing concern; however, there is little research on radon exhalation from loess.

Radon permeability and radon exhalation of building materials

Science of The Total Environment, 2001
High radon concentrations indoors usually depend on the possibilities of radon penetration from the surrounding soil into the buildings. Radon concentrations in dwellings up to 100 kBq/m3 were found in some special regions (i.e. Schneeberg/Saxony, Umhausen/Tyrol), where the soil shows a high uranium content and additionally, a fast radon transport in ...

Radon in the Exhaled Air of Patients in Radon Therapy

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2017
In the Gastein valley, numerous facilities use radon for the treatment of various diseases either by exposure to radon in air or in radon rich thermal water. In this study, six test persons were exposed to radon thermal water in a bathtub and the time-dependent radon activity concentration in the exhaled air was recorded.

Study of radon exhalation from the soil

Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry, 2017
The influence of meteorological parameters on radon exhalation rate was analyzed. The analyses show a significant influence of precipitation on radon exhalation rate. The highest exhalation rate was found during dry periods and the lowest during the periods of strong precipitation.

A Radon Exhalation Monitor

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 1996
A radon exhalation monitor has been constructed and calibrated. The monitor is based on the adsorption of radon by active charcoal and the subsequent measurement of its γ activity by means of high resolution γ spectrometry. Exhalation rates may be determined with an accuracy of better than 20% within 48 h after exposure.

Diffusion Model of Radon Exhalation Rates

Health Physics, 1998
Radon migration through walls is considered using an effective diffusion model. One and two dimensional models as well as a spherical geometry are compared. It is concluded that either the 1-dimensional or spherical model, both having analytical solution, may be used for practical purposes. Application is made for typical cases in Athens, Greece.
