A method of predicting variable speed rail corrugation growth using standard statistical moments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Wear-type rail corrugation is a significant problem in the railway transport industry. Some recent work has suggested that speed control can be used as an effective tool to minimize the rate of corrugation growth. This has brought about the need to model

Designs of magnetic atom-trap lattices for quantum simulation experiments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We have designed and realized magnetic trapping geometries for ultracold atoms based on permanent magnetic films. Magnetic chip based experiments give a high level of control over trap barriers and geometric boundaries in a compact experimental setup ...

A multilevel track defects assessment framework based on vehicle body vibration

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 40, Issue 12, Page 1688-1720, 9 May 2025.
Abstract High‐frequency detection of track defects is crucial for accurate track condition assessment and system safety. Onboard vibration data collection devices can significantly increase detection density without additional costs. However, defect assessment based on this is significantly challenging, including the spatial heterogeneity of track ...

Design and Development of a Wayside AI‐Assisted Vision System for Online Train Wheel Inspection

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2025.
A vision inspection system for automated train wheel inspection was developed and tested. Our YOLOv9 model achieved a mAP50 of 0.94 and a recall of 0.91 for wheel segmentation, demonstrating high efficacy in capturing and analyzing wheel tread images for fault diagnosis.

An Indirect Method for Accurate Identification of Short-Pitch Rail Corrugation Using Vehicle Interior Noise and Vibration Measurements and Train–Track Transfer Functions

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Short-pitch rail corrugation is commonly found at curves or resilient track structures of the metro system, causing fatigue failure of key components of the train–track system.

Dis/incremental Dwelling and the Right to the Beach in Jamestown, Accra, Ghana

open access: yesAntipode, Volume 57, Issue 1, Page 301-323, January 2025.
Abstract In mid‐2020, the municipal authority of Accra, Ghana levelled the dwellings of approximately 450 residents remaining in an informal beach settlement in Jamestown, long the centre of an artisanal fishing economy. The destruction marked the culmination of at least four demolition cycles to clear ground for a Chinese‐financed commercial harbour ...

A Numerical Analysis of Ground Vibration Induced by Typical Rail Corrugation of Underground Subway

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2019
A two-step approach is used to establish a numerical prediction model to study the impact of typical rail corrugation on ground vibration from an underground subway.

Modelling Washboard Road: from experimental measurements to linear stability analysis

open access: yes, 2013
When submitted to the repeated passages of vehicles unpaved roads made of sand or gravel can develop a ripply pattern known as washboard or corrugated road. We propose a stability analysis based on experimental measurements of the force acting on a blade

Is Your Supply Chain Breaking Down? Call AAA for Resilience Assistance

open access: yesJournal of Business Logistics, Volume 46, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Supply chain disruptions regularly interrupt the normal operations of organizations, impairing their financial, operational, and service performance. Therefore, organizations must develop capabilities to enhance their resilience–their ability to anticipate, overcome, and transform after disruptions.
