On Generalized Random Railways [PDF]

open access: yesCombinatorics, Probability and Computing, 2004
We consider a random generalized railway defined as a random 3-regular multigraph where some vertices are regarded as switches that only allow traffic between certain pairs of attached edges. It is shown that the probability that the generalized railway is functioning is linear in the proportion of switches.

Investigating the Cytoskeleton of DRGs Using Cryo‐Electron Microscopy and Deep Learning

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We describe a method for determining the ultrastructural organization of axons and varicosities of cultured dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons using cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo‐EM). Cryo‐EM reveals the dimensions, proximity, and overall organization of biological specimens in a near‐native state, avoiding artifacts of fixation and ...

Digital twin aided sustainability-based lifecycle management for railway turnout systems

open access: yesJournal of Cleaner Production, 2019
Railway turnouts or so-called ‘switches and crossings’ are complex systems by nature of design and construction. Railway turnouts are used to change direction of trains from one to another. They require high-quality construction and maintenance, in order
