Carbon emission assessment of tunnel infrastructures: From construction to operation
This study develops a lifecycle carbon accounting framework for tunnel infrastructures, covering design, construction, operation, maintenance, and dismantling. Applied to a subsea tunnel case, the framework reveals the carbon emission distribution among four typical tunnel types and highlights potential carbon offset methods for low‐carbon tunnel ...

An Approach to the Safety Problem of Railway-Road Crossings in the Transport System
The paper presents an approach to the problem of railway-road level crossings. The goal is to improve safety in thetransport system network, which includes a considerable numberof »inadequately protected« crossings.

Motorist behaviour at railway level crossings : the present context in Australia [PDF]
Railway level crossing collisions in Australia are a major cause of concern for both rail and road authorities. Despite the fact that the number of railway crash fatalities in Australia has fallen in recent years, level crossing collisions constitute a ...

Detecting anomalous events at railway level crossings [PDF]
Collisions between pedestrians and vehicles continue to be a major problem throughout the world. Pedestrians trying to cross roads and railway tracks without any caution are often highly susceptible to collisions with vehicles and trains.

Where early successional forests are more flammable than old‐growth forests, forested landscapes are vulnerable to shifting into ‘fire traps' through positive feedbacks, where fire leads to more fire. These feedbacks are amplified by increased flammability driven by climate change, the presence of non‐native flammable plant species, and slowed ...

Th4+ or UO22+ actinides, neutral bipyridine‐N,N’‐dioxide ligands, and anionic cyanoaurate linkers are combined to generate a family of four coordination polymers. ‘Truss bridge’ and square grid cationic frameworks are yielded when using [Au(CN)2]− or [Au(CN)4]−, respectively, indicating a templating effect guided by either aurophilic interactions ...

INEQUALITIES RESEARCH OF THE TRACK AT THE RAILROAD CROSSINGS
Purpose. The intersection of highways and railways in one level – railway crossing, is a zone of increased danger for rail and road transport. Nearly half of all crossings are available on the main directions of passenger transportation.

Application of pneumatic tubes to evaluate driver behavior and interventions at low traffic railway level crossings [PDF]
The recent development of new technologies has attracted the interest of the rail industry as a way to increase driver awareness at railway level crossings by providing new ways to display information to drivers as they approach crossings.

The 2025 Kamchatka Earthquake and Tsunami: Cascading Impacts and Risks to Japan
ABSTRACT On July 29th, 2025, a large earthquake (Mw 8.8) occurred near the Kamchatka Peninsula. This event caused a tsunami that reached Japan's Pacific coast, even though the source was far away. In this study, we analyze the characteristics of earthquakes and tsunamis and discuss how they relate to the recurrence possibility and risk in Japan.

Non-radial DEA model: A new approach to evaluation of safety at railway level crossings
Railway level crossings (RLCs) are critical points characterized by a large number of accidents per year due to the intersection of railway and roadway infrastructures. The improvement of safety at RLCs is of crucial importance worldwide.
