Development of rain gauge using weight measurement for microwave network
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2019The development of rain gauge using weight measurement for microwave network was designed to take the step of rain measurement into a whole new way, which is using the weight of accumulated rainwater in a container. This project of the rain gauge using weight measurement will use the technology of load cell which is a weight sensor.

Evaluation of Rain Gauge Network Density and NEXRAD Rainfall Accuracy
World Environmental and Water Resources Congress 2007, 2007The distribution of rainfall in space and time measured by a rain gauge network is a critical element in the management of precious water resources, whether the network is used alone or in combination with weather radar. In 2004, the District initiated a program to optimize the rain gauge network for purposes of near-real time and end of month ...

The Uncertainty of Simple Spatial Averages Using Rain Gauge Networks
Water Resources Research, 1995A technique is presented whereby the standard error of a simple spatial average can be computed given any spatial configuration of measuring sites. The method should prove useful to those wishing to assess the time‐averaged performance of a network of rain gauges where the site locations are fixed within the averaging area.

Validation of the NEXRAD DSP Product with a Dense Rain Gauge Network
Journal of Hydrologic Engineering, 2013AbstractThe Next-Generation Weather Radar (NEXRAD) system digital storm-total precipitation product (DSP; 2 km×1° at 4–7-min intervals) is examined for its quality in terms of precipitation quantity and spatial rainfall distribution. Observations from a network of 50 rain gauges in the Upper Guadalupe River Basin are compared to the DSP rainfall ...

Identifying the scaling properties of rainfall accumulation as measured by a rain gauge network
Atmospheric Research, 2010Abstract Recent studies have revealed that rainfall has non-trivial structure on small (less than 1 km) and short (less than 5 min) spatio-temporal scales. Despite this realization, instruments with substantially poorer resolution are still often used to characterize rainfall accumulations and other rain microphysical parameters such as mean drop ...

Failure detection and isolation in a urban rain gauge network
1996Considering the great importance of sensor data in the study of environmental systems, efforts are focused on the validation problem. Although off-line sensor data validation is necessary for providing validated database to the end user, on-line failure detection and isolation (FDI) is essential for reliable system monitoring and management. Thus paper

Abstract The study evaluates radar-based quantitative precipitation estimations (QPEs) for 10 extreme rain events that occurred between 2013 and 2019 in the Kansas City metropolitan area, United States. These precipitation estimates were derived at hourly and approximately 0.5-km scales using two polarimetric QPE ...
