In this study, we confirm that PlqH is the hydroxylase operating in plastoquinone biosynthesis in photosynthetic cyanobacteria (Cyanobacteriia). Two enzymes from the Thermus thermophilus lysine biosynthetic pathway, LysZ and LysY, unexpectedly exhibit substrate promiscuity.
