GPS Slant Path Residuals for Rainfall Detection

2019 USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting (Joint with AP-S Symposium), 2019
In this paper, Global Positioning System (GPS) derived slant path residual values are studied with respect to a rainfall event. Slant path residuals can be defined as the difference between the slant path wet delay at a particular elevation angle and the zenith wet delay projected to that elevation angle.

Broadening and Deepening the Rainfall-Induced Landslide Detection

2022
A better detection of landslide occurrence is critical for disaster prevention and mitigation. Over the past four decades, great achievements have been made, ranging from inventories to mapping, susceptibility analysis to triggering threshold identification.

Detection of changes in rainfall and runoff patterns

Journal of Hydrology, 1993
Abstract This study had two main objectives. First, a simple model has been assumed for time series consisting of trend, periodic, autoregressive and random residual components, which have been used to search for significant changes in the components of a number of runoff time series. Second, the potential of topological conjugacy to identify changes

Advancing rainfall-induced landslide detection using homogeneous slope units and distributed rainfall thresholds

2021
<p>A better detection of landslide occurrence is critical for disaster prevention and mitigation, and a standing pursuit owing to increasing and widespread impact of slope failures on human activities and natural environment in a changing world. However, the detection of rainfall-induced landslide is limited in some areas by data scarcity

Detection of trends in extreme rainfall

2015
A modification in the water cycle is one of the most noticeable consequences of the global atmospheric warming. Precipitation is a key point in the process and the distribution of extreme rainfall is particularly important because it has the potential to impact on water management, soil erosion and flash floods.

Design of Multithreading Rainfall Detection System

2011
In this research paper, we will discuss some of functions of designing principles, constitution and crucial technology of the multithreading rainfall detection system. It requires multiple rain sensor synchronization to test on the same test platform in order to improve work efficiency.

Temporal clustering of rainfall for landslides detection

Landslides are impactful and complex natural hazards, causing important damages in vulnerable areas. They can be related to several pre-existing conditions and triggering factors. The former are variables that do not directly cause the event but that increase its likelihood in the presence of a triggering variable.

Detecting the Diurnal Cycle of Rainfall Using Satellite Observations

Journal of Applied Meteorology, 1993
The diurnal cycle in rainfall varies considerably from region to region in the tropics. Determining this variability is important both for comparing predictions of atmospheric models to real atmospheric behavior and for making sure that estimates of total rainfall from low-altitude satellites are not biased because of their infrequent observations of a

Rainfall persistence: Detection, modelling, costs and value of probability information

Agricultural Systems, 1981
The basic hypothesis discussed in this paper is that the presence of persistence or bunchiness in rainfall sequences reduces farm profitability. After a review of past investigations into rainfall persistence, statistical tests are shown to indicate positive inter-temporal correlations in excess of seasonality for weekly and monthly precipitation data ...

Detection of trends in extreme rainfall in the province of Ontario

2013
Information on intensity-duration-frequency (IDF) of rainfall is commonly required for the design, construction, and management of many water resources projects involving natural hazards, due to extreme rainfall events. Design storms (DS) are determined from IDF relationships. Many hydraulic structures (dams, weirs, culverts, storm sewer systems, etc.)
