Microwave Noise from Rainstorms
Science, 1970Observations of microwave noise due to rainstorms have been made at 1415 Mhz. The observed effect may well be due to electrical discharge between water droplets.

Identification of independent rainstorms
Journal of Hydrology, 1982Abstract An easily-applied approximate criterion is proposed for the separation of pointprecipitation records into statistically-independent storms. The criterion is tested successfully in parameter estimation for Poisson models of annual rainfall frequency in an arid climate.

Abstract The tropical rainstorm over land is extremely variable in both temporal and areal distribution. Usually only one rainstorm (defined to deposit > 10 mm of rain) occurs a day at one place. This paper is restricted to the tropical rainstorm as it occurs over Southeast Asia, Colombia, Panama, and Costa Rica. The size and duration of the rainstorms

In the set of radiative feedbacks to global warming due to a doubling of the CO2 concentration, from all the models the increase in latent heat transfer as a consequence of an increase of [sea] surface temperature is left out. Starting from measurements of increased evaporation and increase of wind speed as a function of sea surface temperature ...

Rainstorm Distributions in Tanzania
Geografiska Annaler. Series A, Physical Geography, 1974Rainstorms, short periods of rather intensive rainfall, constitute a much larger proportion of total rainfall in the tropics than in the mid-latitudes. Rainstorms strongly influence both the variability in time and the spatial distribution of tropical rainfall. The most important effects are due to the high rainfall intensity during these storms, which

Abstract On 16–17 August 1959, a severe rainstorm in which amounts exceeded 10 inches in 16 hours occurred in southern Illinois and bordering states. A dense raingage network was located on the major axis of this storm, and one of the heaviest rainfall centers along the axis was enclosed by the network.

Stochastic generation of hourly rainstorm events
Stochastic Environmental Research and Risk Assessment, 2006Occurrence of rainstorm events can be characterized by the number of events, storm duration, rainfall depth, inter-event time and temporal variation of rainfall within a rainstorm event. This paper presents a Monte-Carlo based stochastic hourly rainfall generation model considering correlated non-normal random rainstorm characteristics, as well as ...
