N-4 Alkyl cytosine derivatives synthesis: a new approach [PDF]
The selective N-4 alkylation of cytosine plays a critical role in the synthesis of biologically active molecules. This work focuses on the development of practical reaction conditions toward a regioselective synthesis of N-4-alkyl cytosine derivatives.

Raltegravir in second-line antiretroviral therapy in resource-limited settings (SELECT): a randomised, phase 3, non-inferiority study [PDF]
For second-line antiretroviral therapy, WHO recommends a boosted protease inhibitor plus nucleoside or nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs).

HIV positive patients on ritonavir‐containing antiretroviral therapy (ART) can develop iatrogenic Cushing syndrome (IACS) and adrenal insufficiency as a result of drug‐drug interactions with inhaled or intranasal glucocorticoid therapy. Reports related to epidural triamcinolone injections are relatively uncommon but increasingly reported. We describe a

8-modified-2\u27-deoxyadenosine analogues induce delayed polymerization arrest during HIV-1 reverse transcription [PDF]
The occurrence of resistant viruses to any of the anti-HIV-1 compounds used in the current therapies against AIDS underlies the urge for the development of new drug targets and/or new drugs acting through novel mechanisms. While all anti-HIV-1 nucleoside

Abstract Molecular targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have produced unprecedented treatment response in cancer therapy for patients harboring specific oncogenic mutations. While the TKIs are mostly well tolerated, they were reported to increase serum levels of creatine kinase (CK) and cause muscle metabolism‐related toxicity. CK is an essential

Duodenal Histoplasmosis Presenting with Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding in an AIDS Patient
Gastrointestinal histoplasmosis (GIH) is common in patients with disseminated disease but only rarely comes to clinical attention due to the lack of specific signs and symptoms. We report the unusual case of a 33‐year‐old Caucasian male with advanced AIDS who presented with upper GI bleeding from diffuse erosions throughout the duodenum.

Transgender persons face a greater burden of HIV compared to cisgender counterparts. Concerns around drug–drug interactions (DDIs) have been cited as reasons for lower engagement in HIV care and lower pre‐exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) uptake among transgender populations.

Torsade de Pointes due to Methadone Use in a Patient with HIV and Hepatitis C Coinfection
We present a case of Torsade de Pointes secondary to multiple factors including patient susceptibility and iatrogenic influences. Contributing causes are presented, and the approach to treatment is discussed.
