Near‐Infrared Emitting Lanthanide Catecholate Giant Single Crystals – Morphology Control and Photon Down‐Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled syntheses of lanthanide coordination polymers based on the dihydroxybenzoquinone (DHBQ) organic linker afforded large single crystals of Ln‐DHBQ CPs (Ln = Yb, Nd). A novel structural variant of Yb‐DHBQ is identified by means of single crystal diffraction analysis.

High‐Concentration Mesogen‐Assisted Exfoliation of Low‐Dimensional Nanomaterials for Achieving Ultralow‐Temperature Actuations of Liquid Crystal Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Most matter is nominally frozen in the polar regions or space, and liquid crystal materials are no exception. Consequently, soft actuators, including liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs), are inoperative under such extreme cold in response to stimuli, as their motion relies on mechanical deformation.

Comparison of Bond Character in Hydrocarbons and Fullerenes

open access: yes, 1996
We present a comparison of the bond polarizabilities for carbon-carbon bonds in hydrocarbons and fullerenes, using two different models for the fullerene Raman spectrum and the results of Raman measurements on ethane and ethylene.

Exploiting the Functionality of Cerium Oxide‐Modified Carbon Nanohorns Catalysts Toward Enhanced CO2 Reduction Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A cerium oxide‐carbon nanohybrid catalyst is synthesized via two distinct routes and is integrated into H‐type cells and gas diffusion layers (GDLs) to enhance electrochemical performance. Structural variations significantly affect performance, with the solvothermal sample exhibiting higher current densities.

Symmetry of the Optical Phonons in LuVO4: A Raman Study

open access: yesCrystals, 2020
A thorough analysis of the first-order vibrational spectrum of LuVO4 is presented by using polarized micro-Raman spectroscopy with special focus on the phonon modes with the weakest intensity and occasional controversial assignment. Group-theory analysis

Mechanically Tunable Bone Scaffolds: In Vivo Hardening of 3D‐Printed Calcium Phosphate/Polycaprolactone Inks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D bone scaffold with osteogenic properties and capable of hardening in vivo is developed. The scaffold is implanted in a ductile state, and a phase transformation of the ceramic induces the stiffening and strengthening of the scaffold in vivo. Abstract Calcium phosphate 3D printing has revolutionized customized bone grafting.

Effect of Different Cooking Methods on Quality of Salted Egg Yolk

open access: yesShipin gongye ke-ji
In this study, three cooking methods, namely baking, ultrasonic treatment and steam, were employed for cooking salted egg yolk (SEY). The effects of different cooking methods on the quality of SEY were investigated by considering moisture content, salt ...

First-order Raman spectra of double perovskites AB$'{1/2}B$''{1/2}O3

open access: yes, 2004
First principles computations of Raman intensities were performed for perovskite-family compound CaAl$_{1/2}$Nb$_{1/2}$O$_3$ (CAN). This compound features 1:1 (NaCl-type) ordering of Al and Nb superimposed onto the $b^-b^-c+$ octahedral tilting.

Modulating Electrochemical CO2 Reduction Pathways via Interfacial Electric Field

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Engineering interfacial electric fields in Cu/ITO electrodes enables precise control of CO2 reduction pathways. Charge transfer from Cu to ITO generates positively charged Cu species that steer selectivity from ethylene toward methane. This work demonstrates how interfacial electric‐field modulation can direct reaction intermediates and transform ...
