Distinguishing genomic homogenization from parapatric speciation in an elevationally replacing pair of Ramphocelus tanagers

Molecular Ecology, 2021
AbstractGeographically connected species pairs with weakly differentiated genomes could either represent cases of genomic homogenization in progress or of incipient parapatric speciation. Discriminating between these processes is difficult because intermediate stages of either may produce weakly differentiated genomes that diverge at few locations.

Microsatellite loci for Cherrie's tanager (Ramphocelus costaricensis)

Molecular Ecology Notes, 2006
AbstractCherrie's tanager (Ramphocelus costaricensis) is a common woodland bird of the Pacific lowlands of Costa Rica. Males and females have sexually dimorphic plumage and are socially monogamous. As part of a study of sexual selection in this species, we characterized six species‐specific polymorphic microsatellite loci and one cross‐species locus ...

Two new Isospora species from Brazilian tanager (Ramphocelus bresilius dorsalis) of South America

Parasitology Research, 2009
Two new coccidian (Protozoa: Apicomplexa: Eimeriidae) species from the Brazilian tanager Ramphocelus bresilius dorsalis are reported in the current study. Isospora cadimi n. sp. oocysts are spheroidal to sub-spheroidal, 24.2 x 22.9 microm, with a smooth and bi-layered wall, approximately 1.1 microm.
