Retinoic acid treatment recruits macrophages and increases axonal regeneration after optic nerve injury in the frog Rana pipiens. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS One, 2021
Retinoic acid (RA) plays major roles during nervous system development, and during regeneration of the adult nervous system. We have previously shown that components of the RA signaling pathway are upregulated after optic nerve injury, and that exogenous

Landscape genetics reveal broad and fine-scale population structure due to landscape features and climate history in the northern leopard frog (Rana pipiens) in North Dakota. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2019
Prehistoric climate and landscape features play large roles structuring wildlife populations. The amphibians of the northern Great Plains of North America present an opportunity to investigate how these factors affect colonization, migration, and current

Bioevaluation of Ranatuerin-2Pb from the Frog Skin Secretion of Rana pipiens and its Truncated Analogues. [PDF]

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2019
Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are considered as a promising agent to overcome the drug-resistance of bacteria. Large numbers of AMPs have been identified from the skin secretion of Rana pipiens, including brevinins, ranatuerins, temporins and esculentins.

Application of CNTF or FGF-2 increases the number of M2-like macrophages after optic nerve injury in adult Rana pipiens. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS One, 2019
We have previously shown that a single application of the growth factors ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) or fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF-2) to the crushed optic nerve of the frog, Rana pipiens, increases the numbers and elongation rate of ...

RESPIRATION OF HOMOGENIZED EMBRYOS: RANA PIPIENS AND RANA PIPIENS ♀ x RANA SYLVATICA ♂

open access: yesThe Biological Bulletin, 1957
1. The respiration of phosphate-buffered cell-free homogenates made from R. pipiens embryos increases exponentially with the age of the embryos up until the time at which they are in the tailbud stage, after which the rate declines.2. Addition of 0.2% sodium deoxycholate elevates the respiration of homogenized embryos at any pre-tailbud stage to that ...

Sodium Transport in Rana pipiens Gastric Mucosa

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1984
The transport properties of frog gastric mucosa in vitro have been reexamined in conditions analogous to those used in studies on mammalian systems in which net movements of sodium were observed. Net transport of sodium across frog gastric mucosa was not observed to occur when the mucosal surface was bathed with a well-buffered solution of near neutral

Effective Frontal Plane Vectorcardiogram of Rana Pipiens [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation Research, 1957
A technic is described which provides highly accurate registration of the effective frontal plane vectorcardiogram of Rana pipiens . A comparative study with one of the conventional vectorcardiographic systems illustrates some of the inherent defects of the latter method.

Tyrosinases in Rana pipiens. Purification and physical properties

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1975
Two enzymes with tyrosinase activity have been purified from the frog Rana pipiens. Both enzymes are isolated in an inactive form which can be activated with trypsin. Amino acid analysis, NH2-terminal amino acid determination (arginine for both proteins), and immunological evidence indicate that athe two enzymes are similar if not identical.
