Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Preamble Allocation and Access Delay Reduction for Improved Massive Random Access in 5G Beamforming Networks

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society
In 5th generation (5G) beamforming networks, beam alignment is conducted in the random access process, where user equipment (UE) in different beam regions share the preambles according to the network configuration. The limited number of preambles results

Parallelism in random access machines [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the tenth annual ACM symposium on Theory of computing - STOC '78, 1978
A model of computation based on random access machines operating in parallel and sharing a common memory is presented. The computational power of this model is related to that of traditional models. In particular, deterministic parallel RAM's can accept in polynomial time exactly the sets accepted by polynomial tape bounded Turing machines ...

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

SPARCs for Unsourced Random Access [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2019
Unsourced random-access (U-RA) is a type of grant-free random access with a virtually unlimited number of users, of which only a certain number $K_{a}$ are active on the same time slot.

SAFE-GF-NOMA: Social Autonomous Flocking to Enhance GF-NOMA for Massive Internet of Things Uplink Access Contention

open access: yesIEEE Access
The swift progress of 6G cellular networks responds to the urgent demand for seamlessly integrating Internet of Things (IoT) devices on a large scale. Among various emerging technologies, grant-free non-orthogonal multiple access (GF-NOMA) emerges as a ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

α‐Synuclein aggregation landscape from phase separation to neurotoxic intermediates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Alpha‐synuclein aggregation in Parkinson's disease involves a complex landscape of transient intermediates, including oligomers, fibrils and liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). A view is emerging in which LLPS maturation into solid‐like condensates may contribute to the formation of neurotoxic species.

Circuit-Based Quantum Random Access Memory for Classical Data [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
A prerequisite for many quantum information processing tasks to truly surpass classical approaches is an efficient procedure to encode classical data in quantum superposition states.

Wireless broadband access: WiMAX and beyond - Investigation of bandwidth request mechanisms under point-to-multipoint mode of WiMAX networks

open access: yes, 2007
The WiMAX standard specifies a metropolitan area broadband wireless access air interface. In order to support QoS for multimedia applications, various bandwidth request and scheduling mechanisms are suggested in WiMAX, in which a subscriber station can ...
