Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Closed-Form Whittle’s Index-Enabled Random Access for Timely Status Update [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Communications, 2019
We consider a star-topology wireless network for status update where a central node collects status data from a large number of distributed machine-type terminals that share a wireless medium.

Random partitions in statistical mechanics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We consider a family of distributions on spatial random partitions that provide a coupling between different models of interest: the ideal Bose gas; the zero-range process; particle clustering; and spatial permutations.

Purely antiferromagnetic magnetoelectric random access memory

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Magnetoelectric coupling allows switching of magnetic states via gate voltage pulses. Here the authors propose and demonstrate a purely antiferromagnetic magnetoelectric random access memory based on Cr2O3, reporting 50-fold reduction of writing ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Turbo receivers for interleave-division multiple-access systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this paper several turbo receivers for Interleave-Division Multiple-Access (IDMA) systems will be discussed. The multiple access system model is presented first. The optimal, Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) algorithm, is then presented.

Channel-Aware Multichannel Random Access for Energy-Limited Sensors and MTC Devices

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
In machine-type communications (MTC) or wireless sensor networks (WSNs), since MTC devices or sensors have limited supply of energy, energy efficient transmission schemes are important.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

A Novel WLAN Vehicle-To-Anything (V2X) Channel Access Scheme for IEEE 802.11p-Based Next-Generation Connected Car Networks

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
To support a massive number of connected cars, a novel channel access scheme for next-generation vehicle-to-anything (V2X) systems is proposed in this paper.
