See4D: Pose‐Free 4D Generation via Auto‐Regressive Video Inpainting

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Immersive applications call for synthesizing spatiotemporal 4D content from casual videos without costly 3D supervision. Existing video‐to‐4D methods typically rely on manually annotated camera poses, which are labor‐intensive and brittle for in‐the‐wild footage.

Robo‐Saber: Generating and Simulating Virtual Reality Players

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract We present the first motion generation system for playtesting virtual reality (VR) games. Our player model generates VR headset and handheld controller movements from in‐game object arrangements, guided by style reference gameplay examples. We train on the large BOXRR‐23 dataset and apply our framework on the popular VR game Beat Saber.

Digital signal processing techniques for application in the analysis of pathological voice and normophonic singing voice

open access: yes, 2008
Singing voice is one specific example of vocal sound made by human beings. If we consider the larynx apparatus as a type of singing instrument then we can further say that sung voice is perhaps the best and most stable utilisation of such an instrument ...

Step2Motion: Locomotion Reconstruction from Pressure Sensing Insoles

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Human motion is fundamentally driven by continuous physical interaction with the environment. Whether walking, running, or simply standing, the forces exchanged between our feet and the ground provide crucial insights for understanding and reconstructing human movement. Recent advances in wearable insole devices offer a compelling solution for

NAADF: Globally Illuminated Voxel Worlds Accelerated with Nested Axis‐Aligned Distance Fields

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Achieving realistic rendering of 3D scenes in real time using path tracing is challenging due to the high sample count required, with ray tracing as the bottleneck. Focusing on voxels as a geometry representation offers significant opportunities for optimizations, especially for tracing the rays, but also for computing the samples.

Does Visual Working Memory Decline Explain Age Differences in Visualization Performance?

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Visualization studies that examine age effects on task performance often attribute the performance gap between young adults (YA) and people in late adulthood (PLA) to declines in cognitive abilities, especially reduced visual working memory (VWM) capacity.

Ultra high energy gamma ray point sources and cosmic ray anisotropy [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
The experimental set-up at the Baksan Air Shower Array, used to detect air showers above ~0.2xl0(^14)eV, is described. An estimation of the angular resolution using the cosmic ray shadow of the Sun and the Moon gives a value of ~2.5˚ which is consistent ...

Multi‐angle, cross‐domain fusion strategy enhances automated insect identification and hierarchical categorization: a case study on assassin bugs (Hemiptera: Reduviidae)

open access: yesCladistics, EarlyView.
Abstract Automated insect identification systems hold significant value for biodiversity monitoring, pest management, citizen science initiatives and systematic studies, particularly in an era of declining expertise in insect taxonomy. However, current deep learning approaches often rely on standardized specimen photos from limited‐angles and ...

Limited elephant impacts on baobabs despite increasing elephant densities in a newly established protected area

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, EarlyView.
Researchers combined aerial and ground surveys to map baobab distribution and assess elephant herbivory impacts on baobabs across Karingani Game Reserve, Mozambique. Researchers found that aerial surveys were an effective tool for mapping baobabs and that baobabs were more likely to occur closer to permanent water, at lower elevations, and in areas ...

An experimentally informed computational model of neurovestibular adaptation to altered gravity

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Transitions to altered gravity environments result in acute sensorimotor impairment for astronauts, leading to serious mission and safety risks in the crucial first moments in a new setting. Our understanding of the time course and severity of impairment in the early stages of adaptation remains limited and confounded by unmonitored head ...
