A Decentralized Federated Learning Framework for Privacy-Preserving Malnutrition Risk Prediction in Children [PDF]

open access: yesITM Web of Conferences
Malnutrition among children under five remains a critical public health challenge in low-income countries, including Ethiopia. The implementation of centralised machine learning methods faces difficulties because they violate patient privacy laws and ...

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

Existence and Phase Structure of Random Inverse Limit Measures

open access: yesMathematics
Analogous to Kolmogorov’s theorem for the existence of stochastic processes describing random functions, we consider theorems for the existence of stochastic processes describing random measures as limits of inverse measure systems. Specifically, given a

A Tree-Based Multiscale Regression Method

open access: yesFrontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, 2018
A tree-based method for regression is proposed. In a high dimensional feature space, the method has the ability to adapt to the lower intrinsic dimension of data if the data possess such a property so that reliable statistical estimates can be performed ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

L’interprétation stochastique du sociogramme et le problème des choix exceptionnels; A statistical interpretation of the sociogram and the determination of exceptional choice [PDF]

open access: yesTutorials in Quantitative Methods for Psychology, 2012
The mutual designation of a preferred member among a group, be it for presidency, a special mandate or even for psychosocial purposes, proceeds frequently by Moreno’s sociogram technique: in its simpler form, each member votes for some other member, and ...

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Boundary Vertices Sensitive Vertex-Cut Partitioning Algorithm

open access: yesJISR on Computing, 2015
Graph Partitioning is one of the favorite research topics among researchers since the 70s. It attracts a diverse group of researchers from various fields such as engineering, science and mathematics. In the last decade, the graphs have increased in size

Understanding the Stochastic Nature of Process Parameter Development of Blown Powder Laser Beam Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing of Pure Molybdenum

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

Some Difficult-to-pass Tests of Randomness

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Software, 2002
We describe three tests of randomness-- tests that many random number generators fail. In particular, all congruential generators-- even those based on a prime modulus-- fail at least one of the tests, as do many simple generators, such as shift register
