Descending subsequences of random permutations

open access: yesJournal of Combinatorial Theory, Series A, 1990
Let \(L_ n\) be the length of the longest descending subsequence of a random permutation of 1,2,3,...,n, and let \(F_ n\) be the first element of the descending subsequences with maximal length. It is well known that \(E(L_ n)/\sqrt{n}\to c\) as \(n\to \infty\), and that \(c=2\).

Plasma EV Proteomics Identifies ECM Remodeling and Inflammatory Proteins LUM and C7 as Candidate Biomarkers in FSHD

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is one of the most debilitating and common muscular dystrophies. Despite its severity, no approved therapy exists for FSHD patients. However, several therapeutic candidates are currently under development, and some have recently entered clinical trials, marking the need for reliable ...

The first descent in samples of geometric random variables and permutations

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2006
For words of length n, generated by independent geometric random variables, we study the average initial and end heights of the first descent in the word. Higher moments and limiting distributions are also derived. In addition we compute the average

Cognitive and Neuroimaging Divergence Between Juvenile and Adult FUS Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive motor neuron degeneration. Fused in sarcoma (FUS)‐associated juvenile ALS (jALS) represents a distinct and aggressive subgroup with rapid deterioration and poor prognosis.

Analysis of some parameters for random nodes in priority trees

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2008
Priority trees are a certain data structure used for priority queue administration. Under the model that all permutations of the numbers $1, dots, n$ are equally likely to construct a priority tree of size $n$ we study the following parameters in ...

Thalamo‐Lesional Connectivity Signatures of Bilateral Tonic–Clonic Seizures in Focal Cortical Dysplasia‐Related Epilepsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) is the most common etiology of drug‐resistant epilepsy in children. Focal to bilateral tonic–clonic seizures (FBTCS) mark a high risk of drug‐resistant epilepsy and involve thalamocortical circuitry in their generation and propagation.

Long‐Term Neurologic Exam Findings in People Diagnosed and Treated During Acute HIV Infection

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Evaluate clinical and laboratory correlates of abnormal neurologic exam findings after acute HIV infection (AHI). Methods Participants from the RV254/SEARCH 010 cohort in Bangkok underwent standardized neurologic examinations at Weeks 0 (AHI), 12, 96, and 288 following antiretroviral therapy (ART).

Deep Learning Pose Estimation for Phenotyping of Co‐Occurring Hyperkinetic Movement Disorders

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore whether routine outpatient video combined with deep learning‐based pose estimation and clinically interpretable kinematic features can support multi‐label phenotyping of co‐occurring hyperkinetic movement disorders (HMDs).

The expected sum of edge lengths in planar linearizations of trees

open access: yesJournal of Language Modelling
Dependency trees have proven to be a very successful model to represent the syntactic structure of sentences of human languages. In these structures, vertices are words and edges connect syntacticallydependent words.

Natural Frequencies of Levodopa‐Induced Dyskinesia in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Abnormal involuntary movements, known as dyskinesias, are common complications of levodopa treatment in patients with Parkinson's disease and can significantly impair quality of life. The underlying pathophysiology remains unclear, and current therapeutic options are limited.
