Optimal moment inequalities for order statistics from nonnegative random variables [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
We obtain the best possible upper bounds for the moments of a single order statistic from independent, non-negative random variables, in terms of the population mean. The main result covers the independent identically distributed case. Furthermore, the case of the sample minimum for merely independent (not necessarily identically distributed) random ...

Simplicial Random Variables

open access: yes, 2017
We introduce a new `geometric realization' of an (abstract) simplicial complex, inspired by probability theory. This space (and its completion) is a metric space, which has the right (weak) homotopy type, and which can be compared with the usual geometric realization through a natural map, which has probabilistic meaning : it associates to a random ...

Chemoresistome mapping in individual breast cancer patients unravels diversity in dynamic transcriptional adaptation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study used longitudinal transcriptomics and gene‐pattern classification to uncover patient‐specific mechanisms of chemotherapy resistance in breast cancer. Findings reveal preexisting drug‐tolerant states in primary tumors and diverse gene rewiring patterns across patients, converging on a few dysregulated functional modules. Despite receiving the

Aberrant expression of nuclear prothymosin α contributes to epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nuclear prothymosin α inhibits epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in lung cancer by increasing Smad7 acetylation and competing with Smad2 for binding to SNAI1, TWIST1, and ZEB1 promoters. In early‐stage cancer, ProT suppresses TGF‐β‐induced EMT, while its loss in the nucleus in late‐stage cancer leads to enhanced EMT and poor prognosis.

Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular
