Rangeland dynamics in southern Ethiopia: (3). Assessment of rangeland condition in relation to land-use and distance from water in semi-arid Borana rangelands

Journal of Environmental Management, 2007
The condition of the semi-arid Borana rangeland in southern Ethiopia was assessed by studying different land-use systems (communal land, a government ranch and a traditional grazing reserve enclosure) and along a distance gradient (near, middle and far) from water sources. The assessment incorporated the soil, herbaceous and woody plant layers.

Nutrition of sheep under rangeland conditions.

2002
The following chapter addresses specific problems associated with the nutrition of sheep on rangelands, including variable feed quality and water availability, as well as the use of supplementary feeding to correct nutrient deficiencies for sheep grazing in these environments.

Projections of Forest and Rangeland Condition Indicators for a National Assessment

Environmental Management, 1999
/ This paper discusses projections of emerging geographic areas of concern with regard to forest and rangeland condition, as indicated by a model based on a set of independent econometric production functions for condition indicators at the national scale.

A process for selecting indicators for monitoring conditions of rangeland health

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 1995
This paper reports on a process for selecting a suite of indicators that, in combination, can be useful in assessing the ecological conditions of rangelands. Conceptual models that depict the structural and functional properties of ecological processes were used to show the linkages between ecological components and their importance in assessing the ...

BLM rangeland: Has the condition improved?

1997
"Whose Home Is the Range, Anyway?: The latest research is confirming that in the West's fragile public lands, cattle are often bad news for wildlife." This is the title and headline of Lisa Drew's article in the December/January 1994 issue of National Wildlife.

United States pasture and rangeland conditions: 1995–2022

Agronomy Journal
AbstractUSDA National Agricultural Statistics Service pasture and rangeland condition data were used to establish a novel spatiotemporal climatology of condition ratings across the conterminous United States for the May–October grazing season over the 1995–2022 study period. On average, the coverage of grazing land that provides adequate or excess feed

A technique for objective habitat condition assessments in rangelands

Journal of Arid Environments, 1992
An objective habitat condition assessment technique is proposed which is based on calculations of similarity between rainfall effectivity (displayed in soil wetness) of reference and test areas subjected to the same environmental conditions and inputs.

Rangeland Health Status and Condition Two Different Yet Complementary Concepts

2023
Pampa Galeras Barbara D´Achille National Reserve has an extension of 21,030 hectares constituted mainly by puna rangeland and has played a key role in the recovery of the vicuña (Vicugna vicugna) population from extinction. This reserve is divided into two zones, known as the Rigid zone with a total area of 6,500 ha, and the Buffer zone of 14,530 ha ...
