Induced Ranked Set Sampling when Units are Inducted from Several Populations

open access: yesStatistica, 2018
The method of ranked set sampling when units are to be inducted from several bivariate populations is introduced in this work. The best linear unbiased estimation of a common parameter of two bivariate Pareto distributions is discussed based on the n ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

On Regression Estimators Using Extreme Ranked Set Samples

open access: yesSultan Qaboos University Journal for Science, 2004
Regression is used to estimate the population mean of the response variable, , in the two cases where the population mean of the concomitant (auxiliary) variable, , is known and where it is unknown. In the latter case, a double sampling method is used to

MIR task and evaluation techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Existing tasks in MIREX have traditionally focused on low-level MIR tasks working with flat (usually DSP-only) ground-truth. These evaluation techniques, however, can not evaluate the increasing number of algorithms that utilize relational data and are ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Hypothesis tests on the scale parameter using median ranked set sampling

open access: yesStatistica, 2008
In this paper, some test procedures for scale parameters of exponential and rectangular distributions involving the median ranked set sampling (MRSS) method are discussed. The necessary tables for the critical regions for the suggested tests are supplied.

Hotspot Detection Using Ranked Set Sampling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
One of the most preferential and critical needs of 21st century is the Geoinformatics of geospatial and spatio-temporal hotspot detection and prioritization. A declared need is around for statistical geoinformatics and software infrastructure development.

Ranked Set Two-Sample Permutation Test

open access: yesStatistica, 2017
In this paper, ranked set two-sample permutation test of comparing two-independent groups in terms of some measure of location is presented. Three test statistics are proposed. The statistical power of these new test statistics are evaluated numerically.

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.
