Spatial variation in functional group diversity in a sandflat benthic community: implications for ecosystem resilience

open access: yes, 2013
The resilience of macrobenthic communities to environmental stress depends upon the vulnerability, adaptability and connectivity of species. Recent studies suggest that the function(s) species perform may be more influential in driving community response

Clustomesogen Showing Sub‐Zero Liquid Crystal Properties: Supramolecular Assembly Between Cs2[Mo6Ii8(OCOC2F5)6] and Hexaethylenoxide Containing Mesogenic Dimers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Associating a red‐NIR phosphorescent octahedral hexanuclear molybdenum cluster compound with hexaethyleneoxide chains bearing mesogenic units on both ends leads to an emissive hybrid liquid crystal showing mesomorphism on a very unusual temperature range down to −25°C.

Planning the integration of ex situ plant conservation in Tasmania

open access: yes, 2013
Tasmania has a strong record of successful in situ plant conservation but there will always be a role for the integration of various ex situ measures into a plant conservation program due to pressure by threatening processes on wild populations.

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

Phase Engineering of Atomically Precise Nanoclusters (APNCs) of Gold and Beyond

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Engineering the structural phase of materials is of paramount importance for both fundamental research and practical applications. In this Review, we summarize the recent progress in controlling the phases of atomically precise nanoclusters (APNCs) of gold, silver and copper, as well as bimetallic systems. The phase‐enabled material properties of APNCs

Theory Guided Fine‐Tune of Strain Effects in Pt Ternary Alloy via Rare Earth Templating: Achieving High Performance PEMFCs Catalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Theory‐guided strain engineering and rare‐earth templating are combined to create Pt5(Ce)Co@Pt multilayer nanoparticles with a Pt5Co‐like sublayer that fine‐tunes *OH binding near the ORR volcano optimum. The resulting catalyst delivers exceptional mass activity and remarkable long‐term PEMFC durability, revealing a strategy for designing highly active

Species distribution modeling in the tropics: problems, potentialities, and the role of biological data for effective species conservation

open access: yes, 2009
In this paper we aim to investigate the problems and potentialities of species distribution modeling (SDM) as a tool for conservation planning and policy development and implementation in tropical regions.
