Paper on Sugar Beet 13 June 1871

open access: yes, 1871
Dr Story's copy of Francis Abbott's paper on sugar beet, read at a evening meeting of The Royal Society of Tasmania in 1871. The paper formed part of an ongoing investigation of the ideal growing conditions of this plant, and highlighted the importance ...

Recent Progress in the Synthesis and Glycosylation of Rare Sugars [PDF]

open access: yes
Out of 42 naturally occurring monosaccharides, only seven are abundant in Nature (glucose, galactose, mannose, fructose, xylose, ribose, and l -arabinose), while the others have been classified as 'rare sugars'. Fungi and bacteria use a wide range of monosaccharides, in contrast to mammals, reflected in their glycosylated metabolites, as well as the ...

Harnessing microbial metabolism and nutrition to target the gut–mammary axis for better livestock production and health

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
The gut–mammary axis integrates intestinal health with mammary function through neural, endocrine, and immune pathways. Nutritional interventions (probiotics, prebiotics, metabolites) improve gut microecology, generating microbial signals that travel via the axis to the mammary gland. There, they relieve inflammation, enhance milk quality and lactation,

Microbial keystone taxa and metabolic signatures in centenarians regulate intestinal homeostasis during aging

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
Clostridium scindens and its metabolite indole‐3‐acetic acid (IAA) are identified as a keystone taxon and metabolic signature in centenarians. Clostridium scindens enhances microbial network stability and produces IAA via its own amidase (AMIE) and aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH), thus promoting intestinal homeostasis by activating the aryl hydrocarbon ...

Effect of Rare Sugars on Physiology of Yeast

open access: yesEffect of Rare Sugars on Physiology of Yeast
Effect of rare sugars on physiology of yeast Candida tropicalis pK233 was studied. Of rare sugars tested, L-sorbose exerted a significant effect. L-Sorbose inhibited growth strongly and brought about pseudhyphal growth in the absence of D-glucose. This effect was not shown in the presence of D-glucose.

Gut microbiota‐mediated immune and metabolic dysregulation in coronary artery disease progression and prognosis

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
The gut microbiota has emerged as a metabolically active endocrine‐like organ with a crucial role in coronary artery disease (CAD), yet its contribution to adverse clinical outcomes remains incompletely understood. In this prospective cohort of 319 participants, we integrated metagenomic and metabolomic profiling with longitudinal follow‐up over a ...

Microbiome and aging: Trajectories of microbiome age across human ecosystems and their systemic effects

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
Microbiome age (MA) has emerged as an innovative biomarker of biological aging, reflecting host aging trajectories through dynamic alterations in microbial composition, function, and host–microbe interactions across multiple body ecosystems. Diverse computational strategies—including traditional machine learning, deep learning, and multi‐omics ...

Ovarian Cancer: Epidemiology, Disease Mechanisms, New Diagnosis and Treatment Strategies, and Research Directions

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ovarian cancer (OC) continues to be the deadliest gynecological malignancy and a significant cause of cancer‐related mortality among women worldwide. Standard treatment strategies typically entail platinum‐based chemotherapy in conjunction with cytoreductive surgery.
