Capturing the Knudsen layer in continuum-fluid models of non-equilibrium gas flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In hypersonic aerodynamics and microflow device design, the momentum and energy fluxes to solid surfaces are often of critical importance. However, these depend on the characteristics of the Knudsen layer - the region of local non-equilibrium existing up

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Rarefied Nozzle Flow Computation Using the Viscosity-Based Direct Simulation Monte Carlo Method

open access: yesFluids
Micro-nozzles are essential for enabling precise satellite attitude control and orbital maneuvers. Accurate prediction of performance parameters, including thrust and specific impulse, is critical, necessitating careful design of these nozzles. Given the

Impact of mode of application of magnetic field on rate of heat transfer of rarefied gas flows in a microtube

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2018
This paper examines theoretically the impact of transverse and radial mode of application of magnetic field on rate of heat transfer of rarefied gas in a micro tube.

Rarefied dynamic pressure distribution measurement near a vacuum pump

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2020
In vacuum chambers, such as those at a ground test facility, pressure is higher and the gas resident time is longer than in space because such chambers are surrounded by walls and vacuum pumps.

A volume-based hydrodynamic approach to sound wave propagation in a monatomic gas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We investigate sound wave propagation in a monatomic gas using a volume-based hydrodynamic model. In Physica A vol 387(24) (2008) pp6079-6094, a microscopic volume-based kinetic approach was proposed by analyzing molecular spatial distributions; this led

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Hydrodynamics and rheology of a dilute granular plane Couette flow [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
We simulate the plane Couette flow of a dilute granular gas using the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo method. We calculate relevant hydrodynamic and rheological quantities and highlight the effects of driving shear rate and inelasticity on them.

Rarefied-flow aerodynamics [PDF]

open access: yes
Means for relatively simple and quick procedures are examined for estimating aerodynamic coefficients of lifting reentry vehicles. The methods developed allow aerospace designers not only to evaluate the aerodynamics of specific shapes but also to ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
