On the Rarefied Gas Flow in Pipes
Volume 6: 5th International Conference on Multibody Systems, Nonlinear Dynamics, and Control, Parts A, B, and C, 2005Rarefied gas flow in a pipe is treated in the paper by modeling the slip boundary condition by means of a fractional derivative. At that the order of the derivative is conveniently chosen to be a function of the average value of the Knudsen number so that the entire Knudsen number range, from continuum flow to free molecular flow, is covered. Very good

Data on Internal Rarefied Gas Flows
Journal of Physical and Chemical Reference Data, 1998The present review, containing 178 references, is dedicated to one of the largest and most important branches of the rarefied gas dynamics, namely internal flows. A critical analysis of the corresponding numerical data and analytical results available in the literature was made. The most reliable data were selected and tabulated.

Cylindrical Poiseuille Flow of a Rarefied Gas
The Physics of Fluids, 1966The Poiseuille flow of a rarefied gas in a cylindrical tube is analyzed numerically for an inverse Knudsen number ranging from 0–10. The Bhatnagar, Gross, and Krook model is used and the transport integro-differential equation is reduced to a purely integral one, which is solved numerically. The plot of the volume flow rate versus the pressure is shown

Interferometry in Rarefied Gas Flows
1993A survey is given on optical interferometry using a Wollaston prism differential interferometer. With a number of selected examples, its potential, especially in the field of low density flow diagnostics, is demonstrated. In the first part, differential interferometry with spark light sources is treated and is shown to be a very effective means for ...

Similarity of Microscale and Rarefied Gas Flows
ASME 3rd International Conference on Microchannels and Minichannels, Parts A and B, 2005The similarity between micro gas flow and rarefied gas flow was numerically investigated using a DSMC method. With compressibility and rarefaction effects, the similarity parameters are the Mach number and the Knudsen number, since the Reynolds number is dependent on the Mach number and the Knudsen number for an ideal gas.

Flow Induced by Thermal Stress in Rarefied Gas
The Physics of Fluids, 1972A new kind of mechanism which induces a flow around a solid body in a slightly rarefied gas is proposed. In order to demonstrate the flow induced by this mechanism the behavior of gas around a sphere with a constant temperature which is placed in an infinite expanse of gas at rest with a uniform temperature gradient is investigated on the basis of the ...

Rarefied gas flow in a cylindrical annulus
Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology A: Vacuum, Surfaces, and Films, 1983The Hansen–Morse model of the linearized Wang Chang–Uhlenbeck equation is used to study the thermal transpiration and mechanocaloric effects for rarefied polyatomic gases in a cylindrical annulus, where boundary conditions are characterized by diffuse reflection.

Flow of a Rarefied Gas through a Cylindrical Tube
The Physics of Fluids, 1967The problem of Poiseuille flow through a cylindrical tube previously solved numerically by Cercignani is attacked analytically. The integral equation for the velocity as a function of radius is cast into a convenient form and its solution is obtained in limiting cases. For large Knudsen number a solution is obtained by Neumann series. For small Knudsen

Flow of Rarefied Gas past a Liquid Sphere
AIAA Journal, 1992The author considers a perfectly spherical drop that is placed in the unbounded slow flow of rarefied gas in the near-continuum regime. In comparison with the flow past a solid sphere, the flow under consideration is solved taking into account the internal circulating motion of the liquid itself induced by the frictional forces acting at the sphere ...

Rarefied Gas Flow Around a 3D-Deltawing
1991This paper presents numerical results for hypersonic flows around a 3D-deltawing at a low Knudsen number. The underlying body geometry as well as the physical parameters correspond to testcase 7.2.1. of the workshop. The numerical method used for the calculations is the Finite-Pointset-Method (FPM) developed at the University of Kaiserslautern since ...
