Uniaxial ratcheting and failure behaviors of two steels

Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics, 2005
The strain cyclic characteristics, ratcheting and failure behaviors of 25CDV4.11 steel and SS304 stainless steel were experimentally studied under uniaxial cyclic tests and at room temperature. The cyclic hardening/softening features of the materials were first observed under uniaxial strain cycling; and then the ratcheting and failure behaviors of the

Effect of particle mass on the behavior of stochastic ratchets

Technical Physics Letters, 1998
Nonlinear Brownian motion in stochastic rachets is investigated by electronic simulation methods. It is shown experimentally that it is possible to sort particles by mass using a discrete random process, binary noise, as the source of the nonequilibrium stochastic ratchets.

Ratcheting of cyclically hardening and softening materials: I. Uniaxial behavior

International Journal of Plasticity, 1994
Abstract Part II of this study is concerned with ratcheting phenomena of cyclically hardening and softening materials under biaxial, cyclic loading. Two sets of biaxial experiments were performed on carbon steel 1018 and stainless steel 304 thin-walled tubes. In the first tyoe of experiment, a constant internal pressure was prescribed while the tubes

Influence of Heat Treatment on Ratcheting Fatigue Behavior and Post Ratcheting Tensile Properties of Commercial Aluminum

Transactions of the Indian Institute of Metals, 2014
The objective of this work is the study of ratcheting fatigue behavior and post fatigue tensile properties of the commercial aluminum via heat treatment like annealing and normalizing. In view of this, stress controlled fatigue tests carried out at room temperature up to 150 cycles under different combinations of mean stress and stress amplitude using ...

Ratchet-type micro-hydraulic actuator to mimic muscle behavior

IECON 2013 - 39th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2013
Piezo actuators are usually found in applications where high precision, high stiffness, but small displacement are required. This makes them the actuation principle of choice for many microand nano-positioning applications. In contrast, animal and human muscles have a comparatively small stiffness, but long displacements.

Molecular dynamics simulation on creep-ratcheting behavior of columnar nanocrystalline aluminum

Journal of Molecular Graphics and Modelling, 2023
Creep-ratcheting deformation behavior of columnar nanocrystalline (NC) Al varying in grain sizes have been studied using molecular dynamics simulations at three different temperatures (300 K, 467 K, and 653 K). The underlying deformation mechanisms of columnar NC Al for two stress ratios of ratcheting are also evaluated in this study.

Ratcheting in cyclic plasticity, part II: Multiaxial behavior

International Journal of Plasticity, 1992
Abstract Part II is concerned with time-independent ratcheting of materials under biaxial, cyclic loading histories. Carbon steel 1026 (heat-treated) tubes were tested under constant internal pressure and two axial loading histories. In the first set of experiments, the tubes were axially cycled in a strain symmetric fashion.

The ratchet, tautness, and managerial behavior in soviet-type economies

European Economic Review, 1987
Suppose a manager receives a fixed bonus for reaching a target plus an overfulfillment reward. Each period the target is fixed by the manager's superiors in a manner that takes into account past performance. This is the ratchet. Managers facing this incentive scheme will choose an activity level which takes into account the dynamic effects of current ...

Lifetime assessment and ratcheting behavior of pressurized pipe

2014 5th Conference on Thermal Power Plants (CTPP), 2014
Pipe equipment widely are used in power plants. Many studies have been devoted to lifetime assessmentof pipeusing different approaches. In the present paper pipe under internal pressure and cyclic bending is studied (bending may be induced by heat). Chaboche's kinematic hardening model is used to simulate tube response in plastic zone.
