The ratchet effect in social dilemmas [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Economic Behavior & Organization, 2020
Abstract In this paper, we investigate whether dynamic incentive schemes lead to a ratchet effect in a social dilemma. We test whether subjects strategically restrict their contribution levels at the beginning of a cumulative public goods game in order to avoid high obligations in the future and how this affects efficiency.

Ratcheting occurrence conditions of piping under sinusoidal excitations

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2020
Ratcheting is one of the dominant failure modes under excessive earthquakes and may cause extreme failures of structures (e.g., collapse). We focused on clarifying the ratcheting mechanism of piping under sinusoidal excitations.

Investigation on uniaxial ratcheting fatigue behaviors and microstructure evolution of ultrafine-grained 6061 aluminum alloy

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2022
The motivation of the present study is to explore ratcheting-fatigue behavior and the corresponding micro-deformation mechanism of ultrafine-grained aluminum alloys 6061 (UFG AA6061) under two stress-controlled low-cycle fatigue (LCF) loading modes, i.e.,

Excellent Wear Resistance of a High-Speed Train Brake Disc Steel with High Hardening Ratcheting Strain Zone

open access: yesMetals, 2021
Wear resistance of brake discs has a significant effect on the safety of high-speed trains. In this work, the rolling–sliding wear resistance of a low-carbon martensitic brake disc steel was investigated.

Ratcheting Simulation of a Steel Pipe with Assembly Parts under Internal Pressure and a Cyclic Bending Load

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
The ratcheting behavior of a steel pipe with assembly parts was examined under internal pressure and a cyclic bending load, which has not been seen in previous research.

Low cycle fatigue and ratcheting failure behavior of AH32 steel under uniaxial cyclic loading

open access: yesInternational Journal of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, 2019
In this paper, the low cycle fatigue failure and ratcheting behavior, as well as their interaction of AH32 steel were experimentally investigated under uniaxial cyclic loading.

Investigating asymmetric ratcheting effect on budgeted earnings in Tehran Stock Exchange [PDF]

open access: yesبررسی‌های حسابداری و حسابرسی, 2015
Asymmetric ratcheting effect occurs when an unfavorable (favorable) budget variance causes in increase (decrease) in next period’s budget. The current study aims to investigate the existence of this effect on budgeted earning in Tehran stock exchange. We

Thermal ratchet effects in ferrofluids [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2004
Rotational Brownian motion of colloidal magnetic particles in ferrofluids under the influence of an oscillating external magnetic field is investigated. It is shown that for a suitable time dependence of the magnetic field, a noise induced rotation of the ferromagnetic particles due to rectification of thermal fluctuations takes place.

Ratcheting behavior of Eurofer97 at 550 °C

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2018
The components in reactor are usually exposed to cyclic loading caused by frequent startups, shutdown and load fluctuations which lead to ratcheting effect.

Flexoelectric Fracture-Ratchet Effect in Ferroelectrics [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
The propagation front of a crack generates large strain gradients and it is therefore a strong source of gradient-induced polarization (flexoelectricity). Herein, we demonstrate that, in piezoelectric materials, a consequence of flexoelectricity is that crack propagation is helped or hindered depending on whether it is parallel or antiparallel to the ...
