A time-efficient method for predicting ratchetting strain is proposed. The ratchetting strain at any cycle is determined by finding the ratchetting rate at only a few cycles. This determination is done by first defining the trajectory of the origin of stress in the deviatoric stress space and then incorporating this moving origin into a cyclic ...

A Fast Method for Ratchetting Strain Prediction
Volume 2: Computer Technology, 2006A time efficient method for predicting ratchetting strain is proposed. By finding the ratchetting rate, at only a few cycles, the ratchetting strain of any cycle can be determined. It is shown that a trajectory of the origin of stress may be defined in the deviatoric stress space as the ratchetting progresses.

Strain ratchetting of titanium upon reversible alloying with hydrogen
Philosophical Magazine A, 2001Abstract During cyclic hydrogen charging (e.g., in metal–hydride systems), internal stresses and strains can be developed due to lattice swelling and/or phase transformation (e.g., allotropic transformation or hydride precipitation). We examine macroscopic plastic deformation due to such internal stresses (strain ratctetting) in the Ti–H system, where ...

The paper is concerned with characteristics in ratchetting of 316FR steel at high temperature. In Part I, first, by discussing isothermal and nonisothermal “strain-controlled” ratchetting experiments, it is shown that 316FR steel exhibits the almost perfect closure of stress and strain hysteresis loops as well as the isotropic hardening depending on ...

Pressure components in nuclear power plants are designed to prevent the failure mechanism of incremental deformation or “ratcheting” due to the simultaneous application of mechanical loads such as pressure and cyclic loads. Design criteria using elastic methods that are specified in NB-3200 of ASME Section III Code are derived from a perfectly-plastic ...

Ratcheting Responses of Strain Hardening Plasticity Models
Volume 1: Codes and Standards, 2011Nuclear reactor components are often subjected to combinations of sustained and cyclic stresses due to the application of internal pressure and transient temperature loads. During the thermal transients, the interaction of such stresses could cause cyclic plastic deformation, which may either lead to shakedown or ratchetting behavior.

Electronic Speckle‐Pattern Interferometry Measurements of Structural Ratcheting Strain
Strain, 2010Abstract: Several tensile specimens with a central hole were subjected to a cyclic loading for which the Von Mises stress was beyond the initial yield stress in the vicinity of the hole. The tensile machine was fixed together with a phase‐shifting electronic speckle‐pattern interferometry measurement bench that makes it possible to perform strain ...

Numerical analysis of uniaxial strain ratcheting of conductive adhesives
2009 8th International Conference on Reliability, Maintainability and Safety, 2009Under the condition of uniaxial strain(Amplitude is ±0.025%), the elastic-plastic finite element method was used to analyze the bonding of conductive/copper wire. The result shows that the plastic strain of X and Y direction is mainly occurred at two positions: one is at the left arc side; the other is at the right arc side of the Department.

Influence of Ratcheting Strain on Tensile Properties of A356 Alloy
Materials Today: Proceedings, 2018Abstract Ratcheting, a special kind of fatigue damage, is known to occur under the influence of asymmetric stress-controlled cyclic loading. Engineering structures undergo premature failure once ratcheting damage happens to these. The present study aims to describe the effect of the imposition of previous ratcheting damage on the tensile properties ...
