Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Conditional Independence Restrictions: Testing and Estimation [PDF]

open access: yes
We propose a nonparametric empirical distribution function based test of an hypothesis of conditional independence between variables of interest. This hypothesis is of interest both for model specification purposes, parametric and semiparametric, and for

Auditor Independence-Its Importance to the External Auditor's Role in Banking Regulation and Supervision [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The role of the external auditor in the supervisory process requires standards such as independence, objectivity and integrity to be achieved. Even though the regulator and external auditor perform similar functions, namely the verification of financial

Mechanisms of IgE‐mediated food allergy and the role of allergen‐specific B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Food allergy arises when allergen‐specific B cells preferentially produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies against harmless foods. This article explains the mechanisms driving IgE‐mediated reactions, highlights the central role of these B cells, and discusses how natural tolerance (NT) and oral immunotherapy (OIT) can reshape allergic immune responses.

"Financial crisis, monetary policy reform and the monetary transmission mechanism in Turkey" [PDF]

open access: yes
Turkey experienced a financial crisis in 2000-2001 which led to significant financial reforms. The reforms resulted in a switch to a floating exchange rate, granted greater central bank independence and pursuit of a more credible monetary policy ...

(WP 2007-01) Openness, Income-Tax Progressivity, and Inflation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper considers a model of an open economy in which the degree of income-tax progressivity influences the interaction among openness, central bank independence, and the inflation rate.

Iterative Estimation of Solutions to Noisy Nonlinear Operator Equations in Nonparametric Instrumental Regression

open access: yes, 2013
This paper discusses the solution of nonlinear integral equations with noisy integral kernels as they appear in nonparametric instrumental regression. We propose a regularized Newton-type iteration and establish convergence and convergence rate results ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

RATE-INDEPENDENT DAMAGE PROCESSES IN NONLINEAR ELASTICITY

open access: yesMathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, 2006
Damage of an elastic body undergoing large deformations by a "hard-device" loading possibly combined with an impact (modeled by a unilateral frictionless contact) of another, ideally rigid body is formulated as an activated, rate-independent process. The damage is assumed to absorb a specific and prescribed amount of energy.
