AbstractThe concept of biomarker measurements in the form of a ratio has not been explored in detail. This is surprising considering the current and future potential for biomarkers incorporating endogenous reference compounds (ERCs) in a range of fields.

from which we can infer that if the risk or the probability of failure is low (P\0.1), then the OR is a good approximation of the RR, and they can be used interchangeably. If the risk of the events is high, then the OR and the RR cannot be used interchangeably, since they tend to be quite different because the risk is bounded by the values of 0 and 1 ...

This article is a scientific overview of the Schrödinger ratio as a basic thermodynamic indicator, proposed by Howard Odum, inspired by the concept of Schrödinger that maintenance of a low-entropy structure depends on continuous inflow of low-entropy energy (or exergy inflow) and on exportation of high entropy.

Invariant Ratios Vs. Dimensionless Ratios
Science, 2005In their Report “The illusion of invariant quantities in life histories” (19 Aug., p. 1236), S. Nee et al. show that purely statistical methods may lead us to conclude that certain life-history ratios are invariant when, in fact, they are not invariant at all, but the statistical procedure—in which one regresses X + c on X —causes one to think so ...
