Variation in haematological parameters among inbred strains of rat

Laboratory Animals, 1981
Haematological determinations were carried out on 7 inbred strains of rats using a standardized procedure. Significant genetic variation was found for many of the parameters although none of the strains had values which could be termed pathological. Measurements also varied significantly from day to day. Factorial analysis of variance is shown to be a

Inbred Strains of Rats

Behavior Genetics, 1979
The first listing of inbred strains of rats was by Billingham and Silvers (1959). This is the fifth listing and has been substantially revised, although it is heavily dependent on previous listings (Festing and Staats, 1973). In contrast with previous listings, an attempt has been made to cite the original reference for any given strain characteristic.

Sperm Autoantibodies in Vasectomized Rats of Different Inbred Strains

Science, 1977
An immune response to antigens of spermatozoa occurs after vasectomy in rats of some inbred strains, but not in others. Antibodies to rat spermatozoa were detected by indirect immunofluorescence in some of the serums of vasectomized rats of the following strains: 80 percent of Lewis, 47 percent of Brown Norway, 13 percent of Buffalo, 12 percent of ...

Hemoglobin polymorphism in inbred strains of rats (Rattus norvegicus)

Biochemical Genetics, 1982
Hemoglobin phenotypes A and B were determined by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of erythrocyte lysates from 29 inbred strains of rats. Fourteen strains have phenotype A and fifteen have phenotype B, which are characterized by five and six hemoglobin bands, respectively.

Cholesterol Response in Inbred Strains of Rats, Rattus norvegicus

The Journal of Nutrition, 1981
A hypercholesterolemic diet fed to rats revealed significant interstrain differences in plasma cholesterol levels. Hyperresponding and hyporesponding strains could be distinguished from normoresponding strains within 3 weeks. The increase in plasma cholesterol level was more than 300 mg/100 ml in the hyperresponding strains BN/Cpb, SD/Cpb and WE/Z and ...

Ethanol Clearance in Nine Inbred Rat Strains

Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, 1984
The rate of ethanol disappearance was determined for each of eight inbred rat strains and the N/Nih line of heterogeneous rats. There are significant differences in ethanol elimination rates in the strains tested. Females have rates significantly different from those of males in five of the eight inbred strains and in the N/Nih line.

Sustained nicotine release comparisons in six inbred rat strains

Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, 1989
The utility of an implantable nicotine reservoir for rats (INRr) in both sexes of several rat strains is described. INRrs with similar nicotine release rates produced higher blood nicotine levels in small female rats compared to larger male Sprague-Dawley rats.

Circadian timekeeping in hyperactive and hypertensive inbred rat strains

American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, 1996
Inbred strains have been used to study genetic and physiological relationships among different aspects of circadian timekeeping, as well as relationships between circadian rhythmicity and other strain-specific traits. The present study characterized several features of circadian timekeeping in genetically hyperactive (WKHA) and genetically ...

Initial Sensitivity of Rat Inbred Strains to Acute Alcohol

Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, 1984
The ethanol sensitivity of eight inbred strains and one heterogeneous stock of rats has been determined by the assessment of “sleep time” and blood alcohol levels upon awakening. In addition, levels of liver alcohol and aldehyde dehydrogenases and phenobarbital‐inducible aldehyde dehydrogenase were determined.

LITTER SIZES IN INBRED STRAINS OF RATS (RATTUS NORVEGICUS)

International Journal of Immunogenetics, 1979
SummaryThe average litter sizes and reproductive performance of twenty‐five inbred strains of rats, maintained in a conventional colony in Pittsburgh, and twenty‐six inbred strains, maintained in a barrier facility at the National Institutes of Health, were calculated from data collected for periods of 3 and 10 years, respectively.
