Characterization of a Sperm-Specific Antigen in Inbred Strains of Rats

International Archives of Allergy and Immunology, 1980
Rat sperm have a cell surface autoantigen which is common to at least ten inbred strains. The expression of this antigen is quantitatively different, and, among the strains tested, the BN strain appears to have the largest amount. The sperm of the B13 strain were examined in detail for a unique sperm antigen, because this strain is heterozygous for ...

Screening of inbred rat strains for electrophoretic protein polymorphisms

Biochemical Genetics, 1978
Nineteen inbred strains of the laboratory rat (Rattus norvegicus) were investigated for genetic differences by starch and agarose gel electrophoretic techniques. For six out of 21 loci, interstrain differences were observed: Tf, 6PGD, Es-1, Es-4, Es-5, and Svp. The variants are briefly described and the allelic distributions are tabulated.

Allotypic Specificity of Serum Protein in Inbred Strains of Rats

Nature, 1967
SINCE Oudin's original discovery of allotypes in the rabbit1 a similar genetically determined intra-species differentiation of plasma proteins has been described in several species2. Although most interest was concentrated on immunoglobulins, allotypy is clearly a general biological phenomenon.

Strain differences in inbred rats: influence of strain and diet on haematological traits

Laboratory Animals, 1983
5 inbred strains of rats maintained on 3 commercial pelleted diets were investigated for differences in haematological traits on the 154th day of age. Number, size and haemoglobin content of the erythrocytes were shown to be strongly influenced by strain and diet.

Spontaneous thymoma in an inbred strain of rat.

Journal of the National Cancer Institute, 1977
Thymomas that appear with high frequency in inbred WAB rats living into old age were examined. The spontaneous thymomas described were discrete, encapsulated bodies composed of lymphocytes and epithelial cells, with a predominance of lymphocytes. The rat neoplasms resembled the human thymomas, and their rate of incidence in older animals may suggest ...

Allogeneic corneal grafting in inbred strains of rats

Albrecht von Graefes Archiv fr Klinische und Experimentelle Ophthalmologie, 1978
Histological studies of interlamellar keratoplasty in different inbred strains of rats (CAP, LEW) without additional sensitization--i.e. first-set reactions--are described. The corneas of 65 eyes, after allogeneic or syngeneic grafting, were examined from the 3rd to the 90th day--every 2nd day at the beginning of the reaction and later every 5th day ...

Enzyme markers in inbred rat strains: Genetics of new markers and strain profiles

Biochemical Genetics, 1984
Twenty-six inbred strains of the laboratory rat (Rattus norvegicus) were examined for electrophoretic variation at an estimated 97 genetic loci. In addition to previously documented markers, variation was observed for the enzymes aconitase, aldehyde dehydrogenase, and alkaline phosphatase.

Erythrocyte B1 Antigen in Inbred Rat Strains

1965
Recognition of the antigenic mosaic in rats necessary for immunogenetic and immunobiological experiments is only in the beginning in comparison with our knowledge of the antigenic mosaic in mice. It is difficult to compare earlier findings because neither rat strains nor antisera used for the determination of erythrocyte antigens are available.

[Characterization of inbred strains of rats by microsatellite analysis].

Schweizer Archiv fur Tierheilkunde, 1997
Microsatellite analysis was applied to identify the inbred rat strains LEW, SHR and WKY. Of a set of seven commercially available primer pairs three pairs were used individually and two times two in duplex polymerase chain reactions (PCR). The products were analyzed in ethidium bromide stained agarose gels.
