The purpose of this study was to characterize the estimation of blood alcohol (ethanol) concentration (BAC) in laboratory rats by measuring ethanol concentration in breath (BrAC) using a specialized apparatus in combination with a gas chromatography system. The apparatus consisted of a body chamber, a plastic cylinder, from which the head of the rat ...

Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology, 1979
Five immunoglobulin isotypes (or classes) have been identified in the human as well as in the rat species. The homologies between the human and the rat immunoglobulin classes have been well defined with the help of the monoclonal immunoglobulins produced by the LOU immunocytomas (plasmocytomas, myeloma tumours).

Persistence of rat parvovirus in athymic rats
Archives of Virology, 1989Euthymic (SD or outbred rnu/+) and athymic (rnu/rnu) rats were inoculated oronasally or intraperitoneally with the RV-Y strain of rat virus when they were 2 days or 4 weeks old. Clinical signs of infection in athymic infants were similar to those in euthymic infants, but significantly more athymic infants died.

Monoclonal Rat Antibodies to Rat Carcinoembryonic Antigen
Immunological Investigations, 1988An IgM-class rat monoclonal antibody, designated 5B1, was produced against rat carcinoembryonic antigen. This antibody, which can be considered an autoantibody, formed a single precipitation line in a gel diffusion test with an extract of the CEA-positive rat colonic adenocarcinoma, RCA-1.

One of the most important effects to control against in psychological experimentation is the effect of experimenter bias. Experimenters can all too easily find what they are looking for (support for their own hypotheses) by inadvertently influencing the way in which their subjects behave.

Methods in molecular biology (Clifton, N.J.), 2012
There is an increasing interest in the preparation of rat × rat hybridomas, because they have been found to be more stable in culture than mouse hybridomas and they secrete consistently high levels (10 µg/mL and above) of monoclonal antibody. In addition, certain subclasses of rat IgG have been found to interact efficiently with human Fc receptors and ...

Rat-Rat Hybridoma Formation and Rat Monoclonal Antibodies
1987The first model of monoclonal antibody-secreting hybridomas, developed by Kohler and Milstein (1), was a mouse system. It can be considered eminently successful, most likely because of its efficiency and extreme stability. If it is so successful, why develop another rodent model? There are, at least, three main reasons.
