One hundred and sixty rats, 112 urban and 48 rural, were examined for leptospiral infection and also for the presence of other bacterial pathogens, dermatophytes, encephalomyocarditis (EMC) virus, and ecto- and endoparasites.

The second largest autosome has satellites. Two types of X have been described within strains. It may have prominent short arms or none. The Y is polymorphic among strains, acrocentric and the smallest element with positive heteropyknosis or, equal in size to medium-sized autosomal acrocentrics without heteropyknosis.

Leptospirosis in Rattus norvegicus and Rattus rattus in Israel.
Israel journal of medical sciences, 1982Leptospires were isolated from 21.2% of Rattus norvegicus (the brown rat) and 9.9% of Rattus rattus trapped in a survey of urban and rural areas in Israel.
