Extinction and Distance to Anomalous X-ray Pulsars from X-ray Scattering Halos
We analyze the X-ray scattering halos around three Galactic Anomalous X-ray Pulsars (AXPs) in order to constrain the distance and the optical extinction of each source. We obtain surface brightness distributions from EPIC-pn data obtained with XMM-Newton,

Removing Oxide Layers and Retaining Oxide‐Free Steel Surfaces by Polishing in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere
In this study, the efficacy of wet mechanical polishing under an oxygen‐free atmosphere for deoxidation and the retention of an oxide‐free steel surface are elucidated using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The methodology proved successful; however, the results were highly dependent on the preparation of the solvents used to clean the samples after ...

Smartphone-Based Water-Level Estimation Method Using Visual Localization and Ray Casting
Monitoring changes in river water levels is essential for accurate flood prediction and disaster prevention. However, existing fixed water level measurement systems are often costly and inefficient for large-scale monitoring.

Comparison of Various Methods for the Calculation of the Distance Potential Field
The distance from a given position toward one or more destinations, exits, and way points is a more or less important input variable in most models of pedestrian dynamics. Except for the special case when there are no obstacles in a concave scenario -- i.

Powder Optimization Strategies for Binder Jetting Printing of BaTiO3 and Ba0,6Sr0,4TiO3 Ceramics
Powder optimization is investigated to enable binder jetting of BaTiO3 and Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 ferroelectric ceramics. The antagonistic relationship between flowability and binder compatibility is addressed through binder impregnation of granulated powders and fumed silica addition to fine powders.

A casting method using contrast-enhanced diethylphthalate for micro-computed tomography of snow
Casting snow is necessary to prevent metamorphism and deformation prior to X-ray micro-computed tomography (μCT) imaging. Current methods are insufficient for large-scale field sampling of snow due to safety considerations associated with the casting ...
